Words can and never will sufficiently describe my gratitude for this woman and the fact that she searched for Jesus Christ so much in her life that His light shined through her and was able to touch me in a way that I will never be able to completely understand. I promise you that Jesus can and will help those around you as you help yourself. You can’t have Jesus Christ light and love in your life if you weren’t searching for him yourself. Search, and then help bring people home. Please.

“I grew up full of questions about the church, and by junior year of high school I decided no one could answer them the way I needed, so I walked away.

I started using drugs my sophomore year, and what began as rebellion turned into a real addiction I couldn’t admit to anyone.

Nicotine became my worst vice because it was so easy to hide.

After high school I moved to North Carolina to escape my old life, and for months I did great, until I relapsed by sneaking my roommate’s stuff at 3 a.m.

In that moment I felt God say, ‘I can see you,’ and I realized I couldn’t hide from Him.

I had been away for about four years when I traveled with my family to my dad’s mission and then to Rome.

At the Rome Temple visitor center, I watched a sister missionary and kept wondering what she had that I didn’t.

Afterward, sitting at dinner with my family, my whole body felt like it was on fire, exactly like the scriptures describe, and I started crying.

I texted my cousin that I was supposed to serve a mission, and I couldn’t even say the words out loud to my family.

I texted my bishop that same night, opened my mission papers, and got endowed the next month, which I know was only possible through God.

I served in Knoxville, Tennessee, where many of the people I taught were struggling with the same addiction I had escaped.

Sometimes a house would smell like my old life and I couldn’t concentrate, but every time, God carried me back into the lesson.

My mission taught me that addiction isn’t who I am, and that God can keep pulling us out as long as we stay willing.

I still carry questions, but what I know far outweighs what I don’t, and God is the one who told me to come back.

I have had too many sacred experiences with my Heavenly Father and Savior to ever deny that this is Christ’s church.”

One of the biggest questions that I get when sharing my conversion story is: “how do I help my loved one come back?” and I couldn’t have said it better than what was said in General Conference:

“The best way to help someone keep their convents is by keeping yours.” (Clark G. Gilbert)

This is EXACTLY what my parents did.

I will NEVER know the mental pain they went through as they watch their daughter go against everything she was ever taught as a child. I DO I know what it was like to still be invite to pray, to be invited to attend church with them and to watch them keep the promises they made to God as they trusted that He would bring me home.

In the end, you can say as much as you want, beg even, but the only thing that will bring them home is the feeling the spirit gives them. That is it. And this IS something that you can control, unlike most things in this situation. You can created an environment in the home or in your life that the spirit can dwell in. Where you can feel comforted and where they can feel different there then where they are outside in the world.

Everyone’s story is very different but one thing I can promise is this: if you do what you have promise God that you will do, your loved ones will notice. Keep praying, keeping inviting and NEVER EVER forget your own relationship with God.

I realized that yes, it is an amazing opportunity to go see prophets and apostles speak in person and to hear the choir first hand but I realized that the most amazing thing about being in person at General Conference is the people. The thousands of different people just wanting to feel more than they felt before walking into the building. People who just want to learn and know more about Jesus. That is what it is all about. The people and their faith:)
