🌱 Our senior students are leaving their mark on Villa Soleada — in the most beautiful way!

As part of their Biology class, our graduating class took on a creative upcycling project with a powerful message. They collected old, discarded tires, cleaned them up, and transformed them into colorful decorative planters for the green areas of our school. 🎨♻️

But this project was about so much more than art. It was about teamwork, environmental awareness, and proving that with a little creativity, waste can become something beautiful and meaningful.

The ornamental plants they chose and planted now add color, life, and a breath of fresh air to our campus — a lasting legacy left by the Class of 2026. 🌸🐯

This is what sustainability looks like at Villa Soleada. 💛🇭🇳

🇭🇳 This is how we work at One Thousand Schools — and why it matters.

🤝 Local Leadership — We support community leaders who are already working tirelessly to address the education crisis in Honduras. Our volunteers work alongside them, not in place of them.

🌱 Sustainability — We invest in local leadership, partnerships, and income-generating projects to make sure our programs last for generations.

🏫 Community Ownership — Village councils and parent committees are involved in every step — from planning to construction to maintenance. Every school truly belongs to its community.

💼 Job Creation — 90% of our staff is Honduran. We are not just building schools — we are creating jobs and economic opportunity for local families.

This is what meaningful, lasting change looks like. 💛 by @onethousandschools

Today, on #teachersday, we’re celebrating all teachers across our portfolio of schools but want to call out a special one at Villa Soleada Bilingual School:

Ms. Sarahi, 2026 Teacher of the Year

Ms. Sarahi’s journey with @onethousandschools began in 2019, when she walked into the school and asked for an opportunity to volunteer as an assistant teacher. She wasn’t paid, yet she showed up every day with determination and a commitment to giving her very best to the students and community. Over the years, her dedication opened new doors, and Sarahi became a full-time teacher at the primary school. Last year she proudly earned her university degree in English Language Teaching, all while continuing to inspire the students in her classroom.

Her students describe her as warm, caring, and fun, and her fellow teachers describe her as reliable, innovative, and always open to new ideas. Ms. Sarahi is more than a teacher. She is a a role model for the children by showing them what is possible when you believe in yourself, keep learning, and give back to your community.

Happy World Teachers’ Day. We are so grateful for all that our school’s teachers do. by @onethousandschools
