POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Coming this November from McSweeney’s and acclaimed author Rebecca Handler: In the Round, an unstoppable feminist Kafkaesque literary mystery.

Have you ever been dead certain that you’re being observed, that maybe your very existence is predicated on how others see you? At once an avant-garde thriller, a meditation on motherhood and mortality, a full-throated endorsement of gut-level intuition, and a tribute to the rapture of live theater in a post-pandemic world, Rebecca Handler’s In the Round is a lively, inventive, and completely singular story.

“I read the opening pages of this remarkable book with a thrill of finding myself in the hands of a gifted conjuror, and finished in a state of total enchantment, profoundly moved.”
—Michael Chabon

“What a beguiling storyteller Rebecca Handler is! In the Round gives the readers an enthralling pleasure of being inside a character and watching the character from outside, which is perhaps akin to the most important experience of living with attention and reflection.”
—Yiyun Li

My mom would have been 90 today. She would have teased me incessantly for going to the wrong cemetery. I made this video for her bestie Pat.

Rest assured Mom, I found you. And miss you like a crazy person. by @onewomanparty

Well, now everyone knows where my in-laws are from! Due to Cape Verde’s historic performance at the World Cup, this tiny country off the Senegalese coast is having a well-deserved moment. I encourage you to watch the brilliant 2006 doc, “Some Kind of Funny Porto Rican?” made by Emerson Professor Emerita and Dave’s cousin, Claire Andrade-Watkins. You’ll learn more about Cape Verde and the immigrant community in the Fox Point area of Providence, Rhode Island. It’s fun and fascinating, and a tribute to a resilient community, many of whom clap when they laugh, not unlike @rhymes_with_bandaid

And after you watch the film for free on Vimeo, please consider making a donation to the Center for Independent Documentary (www.documentaries.org)

Celebrated the birth of the United States by rolling around on bird corpses and discarded moldy fruit. But just as concerned citizens and future compassionate leaders will do, we threw out the trash and cleaned up the mess. Our country is beautiful and creative, and I remain hopeful that reason will prevail. 🇺🇸 by @onewomanparty

Julie Marcus from @dolphinclubsf interviewed me about writing, swimming, and cancer. I ended up saying a lot of nice things about my brother so @authordanielhandler owes me twenty bucks.

New author photo taken by @reganchagal

We had a fun shoot, trying everything from Serious Leather Jacket Author to Full Smile Cardigan Author. In the end, I selected a portrait that best represents the tone of the novel: fun, secretive, and thoughtful (plus, I’m wearing the vest my daughter Willa knitted for me).

In the Round will be published by @mcswys this November. I can’t wait to share it with you. by @onewomanparty
