DAY TRIPS

⛱️ AVEIRO & COSTA NOVA

✨See the famous canals and Art Nouveau building
✨Aveiro railway station has beautiful tile work
✨Take a traditional moliceiro boat tour around the canals
✨Parque Infante D. Pedro is a gorgeous garden with yellow archway good for photos
✨Take a 40min bus to the colourful beach town of Costa Nova. It’s famous for its palheiros, the colourful striped fishermen’s houses. Walk the promenade here and check out the huge Atlantic waves.

Very easy to reach by train from Porto in just over 1hr.

⛪️ IGREJA MATRIZ DE SANTA MARINHA DE CORTEGAÇA

Possibly the prettiest blue and white church I saw in Portugal.

Take the train from Porto to Cortegaca station, it’s only 35min, then it’s a 10min walk to the church.

⛪️ IGREJA MATRIZ DE SANTA MARIA DE VÁLEGA

The most colourful church I’ve ever seen! This one stands out for its multicoloured azulejos, rather than the usual blue and white you’ll see everywhere.

Take the train another 10 minutes down the line from Cortegaca station to Válega station.

If you have a car this is easy to do from Porto, otherwise what I did was actually use Aveiro as a base to explore Costa Nova and both churches.

🍇 DOURO VALLEY

Personally I’d spend a couple of nights here but people also visit on a very long day trip

You can enjoy vineyards, the Douro River, mountain views and much sure you visit the town of Lamego for beautiful churches.

This is easiest done with a car or on an organised tour for winery visits, viewpoints and river cruising. taken in Porto, Portugal by @oneworldjustgo

🇦🇹 HALLSTATT TRAVEL GUIDE ✨

This is easily one of Austria (and Europe’s) most beautiful villages.

Although you can see the whole village in less than a day, I spent 3 nights here enjoying the surrounding area.

WHAT TO DO
⛰️ Explore the historic village
⛰️ Hallstatt Skywalk viewing platform for panoramic views
⛰️ Visit a salt mine
⛰️ Don’t miss nearby Gosausee, one of my favourite lakes in Austria! It’s only a 30 minute bus from Hallstatt. You can walk around the whole lake in an hour. You can also take the Gosaukammbahn cable car up for even better views.

So don’t visit Hallstatt on a day trip, because the tiny village gets incredibly busy and crowded with day trippers. The best time to explore is morning and evening and spend your days exploring near by.

GETTING THERE
I took the train from Vienna to Hallstatt station, then you need to cross the lake by ferry to the village.

Save this for your Austria trip! 🇦🇹 taken in Hallstat by @oneworldjustgo

GETTING AROUND
Download Yandex Go app for booking drivers. This is how we traveled around every city & the prices are incredibly affordable. A 15min taxi cost US $1.50 & my 1hr drive to the airport in Khiva was only US$8.

Use Yandex Maps app to find the best walking route between all your sightseeing spots. In Tashkent, its new Greenery Routes feature finds the shadiest walking path when available. This is a lifesaver in summer when it’s consistently 40°C.

TRAVELLING BETWEEN CITIES
The high-speed trains here are very popular & can sell out so book far in advance. They were sold out on my travel days so l booked a private driver.

Everything you can’t miss in Cairo, save this itinerary for your Egypt trip!

📍The Pyramids…obviously.

📍9 Pyramids Lounge for lunch: this is within the Pyramids complex so you’ll need an entry ticket to access the restaurant.

📍Go inside one of the pyramids: you can choose between Great Pyramid of Khufu or Pyramid of Menkaure (we did this one it was less busy and also a lot cheaper, but it’s also the smaller option).

📍Grand Egyptian Museum: absolutely worth coming here to see the Tutankhamun exhibition.

📍Marriott Mena House for those iconic views.

📍 Saladin Citadel / Mosque of Muhammad Ali: the absolute best thing I did in Cairo. Do not miss a visit here, the architecture is stunning! Tickets are US$10.

📍 Khan el-Khalili Market: I came here during the daytime but wish I also visited in the evening, because I think the atmosphere is a lot more lively.

📍 Al-Azhar Mosque: just opposite the market, entrance is free.

📍 Zamalek: cool neighbourhood for cafes.

📍 Lunch @alkhan_azharpark: absolutely gorgeous outdoor restaurant with views of the lake and mosque.

If I had more time I would have also visited the Coptic Cairo district to see the historic Hanging Church.

WHERE TO STAY:
Most people will start and end their Egypt trip in Cairo, so I recommend starting your trip staying in Giza for those famous pyramid views, then end your trip @waldorfastoriacairo. You’ll be closer to the airport and also for sightseeing in New Cairo and Old Cairo. Most of the 5 star hotels in Cairo are quite dated and in need of renovations, so @waldorfastoriacairo is a welcome addition to the city having only opened in 2024. The indoor palm trees really are such a fun and unique feature of the hotel and look even better lit up at night. I also had some of the best meals of my entire trip at this hotel. So it’s absolutely worth a visit here even just for a meal or their high tea. taken in Pyramids Giza, Egypt by @oneworldjustgo
