We debuted our new Story Art kits at the Harlem Book Fair and they were a HIT.

I have been slightly obsessed with the concept for a while; the idea of painting or coloring to a theme has always intrigued me and being able to connect art to my books is simply amazing. And these aren’t just for kids; the joy of painting is next level for adults as well. 😊

These kits were illustrated by none other than @jaaronmerchant and carry the images of the stories thru beautifully. This is a limited run product so get yours today at SPBookShop.com. If you are a teacher, we have classroom bundles available. by @onezenzee

I’m headed to Harlem! ✨

I’m excited to share that I’ll be participating in the Harlem Book Fair on Saturday, August 29 with I Am, my new children’s book rooted in identity, belonging, cultural pride, and the beautiful reminder that the words we give children can help shape how they see themselves.

There’s something especially meaningful about bringing this story from the US Virgin Islands to Harlem and sharing it in a space that has celebrated Black authors, stories, ideas, and culture for decades.

And, of course, I’m not just bringing books. 😊
I’ll be bringing a little bit of the “I Am” experience with me—and I would love to see some familiar faces while I’m there.
If you’re in New York or the surrounding area, come see me at the Harlem Book Fair!

And if you’re not nearby, you can still help:
📚 SHARE this post with someone who will be in the area.
🤝 TAG a friend, educator, parent, author, librarian, or book lover who should stop by.
📱 CONNECT with me on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok @iamzenzihodge and follow along as I share the journey to Harlem, behind-the-scenes moments, and some special interactive content leading up to the Fair.

I’m looking forward to meeting new readers, reconnecting with friends, and introducing more people to the world of “I Am.”

From the US Virgin Islands to Harlem.
One story. One child. One affirmation at a time.
Words shape identity. Identity shapes destiny.
See you in Harlem! 💛

Shout out to @onezenzee for this episode! We talked, laughed, and educated ourselves during this conversation. As the author of two amazing books, "Never Snowy Christmas" and "I Am" she has definitely put in work to be where she is.

Teaching children about themselves through books that are rooted in culture to teaching other authors, "Its More Than a Book" She's also the founder of @sandscriptpublishing

Tune in to the full episode with the link in bio.

We are bringing our story to the heart of the NYC! Join me Aug 29 at the 2026 Harlem Book Fair - the nation’s largest African American book fair. 🎉

As a proud #VIChild 🇻🇮, I know the strong connection between the Caribbean and New York. Harlem is home to the Schomburg Center, named to honor Arturo Schomburg, who was of Virgin Islands descent. Being a Virgin Islands author, stepping onto this iconic stage to share my children’s book about identity and USVI culture, “I Am”, is a true dream.

This book launch has been such a journey and it is all about the power of telling our stories and making sure every young reader sees their brilliance reflected.

Who is pulling up to Harlem? Drop a comment below and let’s connect!

When Dr. Floyd Reynolds (Jocko Sims) left New Amsterdam for a job out West, I didn’t know he was headed to the Prairie? 🤣🤣

The new Little House on the Prairie on Netflix is off too a good start. The backstory to how the Ingalls’ got out west. Jack the dog looks the same. And there’s even the Harriet Olsen-adjacent nemesis. However, given the period in which this story is set, I’m bracing myself for the “historical elements” to be introduced. 😔 by @onezenzee

Before I get carried away…

I cannot wait to read Ashley-Ruth Moolenaar Bernier’s book, “The Bush Tea Murder.” My mother already started so now I have to catch up so that we can discuss.

Grab your copy and get your bush tea and Johnny Cake ready. #ReadRelaxRepeat by @onezenzee

I have always been a Dr. Seuss fan and “Oh, the places you’ll go” is one of my faves. It gives inspiration and marching orders for a journey, making it a go to gift for a high school or college graduate.
Recently, a friend, reached out after receiving her copy of “I Am.” She said the story’s focus on identity and connection to who you are and where you are from now makes it her go to graduation gift. Whether Starting Kindergarten or College, may every student remember to “Go Forth Bravely.” #booktok #kidlitillustration #booklaunch #virginislands by @onezenzee
