When was the last time you walked barefoot on the grass or felt warm sand beneath your feet?

Known as earthing or grounding, this simple practice has drawn scientific interest for its possible relationship with stress, sleep and the body’s physiological responses. While research is still emerging, walking barefoot in nature also gives us a chance to notice the textures, temperatures and small sensations we often miss.

As the days grow warmer, perhaps it’s a good time to slow down, take off your shoes and feel the ground beneath you again.

Read more about earthing and the connection between our feet, nature and everyday wellbeing in our journal.

Some things stay with us without us even realising.

The meals we grew up with. The way someone prepares a cup of tea. The small habits we picked up simply by being around the people we love.

Over time, these ordinary moments become part of how we live, how we care for ourselves, and how we understand what it means to feel well.

Perhaps we don’t always need to learn something new. Sometimes, we just need to notice what has been with us all along.

Strawberries and a few basil leaves can make a jug of water feel a little more special.

The sweetness of ripe strawberries meets the fresh, aromatic notes of basil, making this a lovely combination to keep in the fridge and pour yourself a glass whenever you feel like it.

Strawberry Basil Infused Water

½ cup sliced strawberries
5 torn fresh basil leaves
4 cups filtered water

Add everything to a jug and leave to infuse until the flavours come together.

An easy little addition to the everyday.

Morning routine.
Night routine.
Sleep routine.

We’ve become very good at turning parts of the day into programmes. But perhaps there’s something worth noticing between being fully awake and trying to sleep:
evening itself.

Dinner ending.
The house becoming quieter.
Washing your face.
Changing clothes.
Putting things away.

Not a prescription.
Not a checklist.
Just the ordinary transition from one part of the day to another.

What marks the beginning of evening for you?

Every culture seems to have foods that mean more than I’m hungry.
They appear when we’re tired, when we’re being cared for, or when someone simply wants to makethings a little easier.

Across Chinese, Korean and Japanese food cultures, rice porridge takes different forms: zhōu, juk and okayu. They aren’t the same dish. Each has its own history, variations and place at the table.

But there is a beautiful simplicity at the centre of them:
rice, water and time.

What food means being looked after to you?

Some sweets are made for sharing.

Strawberry mochi is made for that little moment when you want something soft, sweet and just a little special.

Chewy mochi wrapped around fresh strawberry and creamy filling, with that perfect contrast between delicate sweetness, juicy fruit and a soft, pillowy bite.

There’s something nostalgic about mochi. Maybe it’s the texture, the simplicity, or the way a few familiar ingredients can become something so comforting.

Our Strawberry Mochi recipe is on the ONGI website.

We don’t always know where our everyday habits come from.

Why we ate certain foods when the weather changed.
Why someone told us to avoid something when we were tired.
Why certain little rituals were simply understood.

We inherited many of these things without needing an explanation.

Maybe it’s worth asking why.

Some things don’t need much.

A few slices of cucumber.
A handful of mint.
Cold water, left to sit for a while.

Nothing complicated. Just a small way of making an ordinary glass of water feel a little different.

Cucumber Mint Water
¼ cup thinly sliced cucumber
6–8 fresh mint leaves
4 cups filtered water

Add, infuse, and pour when you’re ready.

Sometimes, it’s the smallest rituals that make us pause.

There’s easy dinner.
And then there’s neko manma.

Literally “cat rice”, neko manma is an extremely simple Japanese way of eating rice. One familiarversion needs just:
hot rice + katsuobushi + soy sauce.

The bonito flakes soften and move with the heat of the rice, the soy goes over the top, and that’s pretty much it. There are different versions of neko manma in Japan, including rice with miso soup, as well as plenty of household variations.

Not every meal needs to become a project.
Save this for a night when even an “easy dinner” feels like too much.

Breakfast feels like such a fixed idea now.
But it hasn’t always been that way.

Across different food cultures, the first meal of the day was often shaped by what was already part of everyday life.

We explore how breakfast became its own category — and what that might tell us about the way we eat today.

We talk a lot about morning routines and bedtime routines.
But there is another part of the day we rarely name:
the transition.
The small things that tell us one part of the day is over.
Close the laptop.
Change clothes.
Wash.
Put the kettle on.
Start dinner.
Nothing here needs to become another wellness routine.
Sometimes it simply marks the distance between work and home.
What tells you your workday is really over?

Maybe we’ve been looking for wellness in all the wrong places.
In routines, products, plans, and things to optimise.

But sometimes, it was already there — in the meals we shared, the things our families did without explanation, and the small rituals that simply became part of everyday life.

Perhaps we don’t always need something new.
Sometimes, it’s worth noticing what was already there.
