FULLSELF SESSIONS 32 featuring Chicago’s very own ONION is OUT NOW! 🔥🔥🧅🔥🔥
Chicago…
WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW?!
Every time I think this city has shown me everything it’s capable of, another conversation like this reminds me why I’ve stayed rooted here in my parents basement for nearly twenty years.

This isn’t just an interview with a band.
It’s a conversation about how art comes alive

It’s about siblings becoming collaborators.
It’s about Sunday jam sessions evolving into something real.
It’s about embracing improvisation over perfection.
It’s about unlearning who you thought you had to be so you can become the artist you already are.

We talk songwriting, dreams, timbre, DIY ethics, vulnerability, community, creative burnout, psychedelics, artistic intuition, and why the best ideas often arrive the moment you stop forcing them.

One of my biggest takeaways:

✨ Schedule your next rehearsal before the current one ends.
✨ Make art a reason to gather with the people you love.
✨ Give yourself permission to make something imperfect.

That’s where the magic begins 🪜

@oniontheband also performs “Stranger” and “Burning It Down” live during the session—and they absolutely ignite the room ⚡️

What keeps blowing me away is watching the Chicago DIY community continue to evolve. Every artist I meet reminds me that creativity isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up, staying curious, trusting one another, and building something bigger than yourself.

Chicago…
We’re cooking.
We’re creating.
We’re dreaming.
We’re unlearning.
We’re building a community where imperfect art has room to breathe.
THE CITY IS GETTING HAWT. 🔥
Throw this episode on while you’re making dinner, driving home, painting, writing, rehearsing, or simply looking for a reminder of why you create in the first place.

Let’s keep lighting fires together 🎶

Onion is a Chicago Indie Band that will make you cry!

Future Bartenderz is the low-low-fi solo project of Brian Costello of Orlando, Florida, who once lived in Chicago, Illinois and was active in the garagepunk scene there in bands like Functional Blackouts, Johnny and the Limelites, and Outer Minds.

***Links to our Bandcamp page as well as presale tickets for 3/12 in our bio!***

New Single “Drowning” available now on Bandcamp, where our debut EP “In the Ground” is also available for preorder! If you use Spotify, you can find us on Bandcamp for a high quality download that can easily be added to your personal Spotify library - we will not be streaming any new music via Spotify because we don’t fuck with investing in AI drone warfare, nor do we fuck with training AI to churn out audio slop with our creative output. Bandcamp rules, support artists directly if you can, but also stream the single for free right now via the Bandcamp website or app before it lands anywhere else!

We also have a show coming up 3/12 at Burlington Bar on Fullerton, 8pm doors and we start the night with live music at 9 which will continue on all night with @bartattacks @slapbunt.chi and @suzyleechicago providing interest to your ears! Looks like you save a couple $$$ buying tickets in advance, they’re also $15 at the door.

Shout out @magicart_hag for the beautiful painting that became our album art! Shout out @owlcatrecording for all the creative and technical artistry you’ve offered us - absolutely stoked for the full release soon 🤘

If you’ve read this far, keep on scrolling through those pictures and you’ll see our cool distorted Polaroid single art, some of the secret sauce that makes Matt’s mandolin tone so “Jesus-y” (one of the best compliments one could possibly receive), and you might even make a new friend at the end… 😘 Be Nice Fuck ICE that’s all for now by @oniontheband
