POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

God gave me a skill, so I took that skill and Mastered it.

On May 9th, 2026, I graduated Cum Laude with my Master’s in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from West Chester University. As a first generation Haitian-American woman, words cannot express how grateful I am for the sacrifices my parents made to give me opportunities they never had. To not only graduate once with my Bachelors degree in Psychology and minor in hospitality, but now TWICE with my Master’s degree.

As Black women in America, we are often expected to be stronger, work harder, and overcome more with less. We constantly hear phrases like “be proud to be part of the percentage of Black women with advanced degrees,” but I always found myself wondering where those numbers actually came from. So I did the research, analyzed the data, and created a graph examining master’s degree attainment among women in the United States by race.
According to NCES data, Black women represent 4.55% of women holding master’s degrees in the United States. To some, that may just look like a statistic. But to me, it represents resilience, sacrifice, discipline, perseverance, and generations of women who refused to give up despite every obstacle placed before them.
But on May 9th, myself and so many other black women in America added to that statistic.

All the stress, crying, and endless nights, 6 years straight, none of this would’ve been possible without the Grace of God. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13

Cheers,
