Transferring to Claflin University was one of the most pivotal decisions I’ve ever made. And in just two days, I will proudly graduate from the number one HBCU in South Carolina, Claflin University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry, with Honors!

When I first arrived at Claflin, I never imagined how many doors would open for me, doors that led to paid internships, study abroad experiences, and opportunities to present at national conferences. Each experience became a stepping stone, shaping not just my academic path but the woman I’ve become.

Now, I stand on the threshold of a new chapter: I’ve been accepted into Duke University’s highly competitive Master of Biomedical Sciences program, with a 6% acceptance rate—an opportunity that places me on a direct path to medical school.

I am the 6%. The 6% that was chosen.

As a Black and Hispanic woman in STEM, being part of that 6% means more than just a statistic, it means I’m breaking barriers and walking through doors that weren’t always open to people who look like me. This isn’t just a win it’s a confirmation. A confirmation that I belong. That I am ready. That I am the chosen 6% and that I will continue to rise and pave the way for others.

What brought me here wasn’t just hard work, but a mustard seed of faith. God guided me every step of the way, never leaving my side even when the road was unclear. His grace carried me through, and I give Him all the glory.

As I move forward on my medical journey to becoming a physician, I remain committed to my purpose: bridging the gaps in quality healthcare for underserved and impoverished communities. This is not just a career path, it is a calling. And with God still leading the way, this is only the beginning.
