Today is World Sickle Cell Day. ❤️

For many people, sickle cell is something they’ve heard about but may not fully understand. For those of us living with it, it’s something we carry with us every single day.

There have been countless times I’ve had to cancel plans, miss appointments, call off work, or stay in bed because the pain was simply too much. There are days when the only options are a hospital visit, pain medication, blood transfusions, iron infusions, or just trying to make it through one hour at a time.

What many people don’t see is that chronic illness doesn’t always look like illness.

I can be smiling, laughing, showing up, and still be in pain. I can look completely fine on the outside while silently fighting a battle that nobody else can see. Because the pain is invisible, it can sometimes be misunderstood or dismissed.

World Sickle Cell Day is about more than awareness it’s about understanding, compassion, and education.

To everyone living with sickle cell: I see you. I see the strength it takes to keep going when your body is hurting. I see the appointments, the treatments, the hospital visits, the exhaustion, and the resilience.

And to everyone else, I encourage you to learn more about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait. Your understanding, patience, and support can make a bigger difference than you realize.

Sometimes the strongest people are fighting battles you’ll never see.

Today, I stand with the sickle cell community and everyone living with invisible illnesses.
You are not alone. ❤️
