I used to bleach my skin. Not because I hated myself, but because somewhere along the line I was taught that lighter meant better. My knuckles were the part I couldn’t hide from myself.

Stopping was one of the hardest things I’ve done — and honestly, some days it still is. This isn’t a transformation story with a neat ending. It’s just where I am now: choosing to feed my skin instead of trying to change what it naturally is.

Just felt like it needed to be said out loud. by @onokesplace

This shift happened in 3days!

Not because of “a miracle product”, but because the skin was finally supported properly.
When barrier function is respected, skin can respond faster than people expect.

This is not about rushing results. It’s about removing what’s stressing the skin and supporting what it needs.

Glow is a behavior not a shade.

Products used:
• Silk Body Oil
• Glow soufflé (Black soap)
• Onokes Body Butter

Skincare is 10% topical application and 80% what you eat, environmental factors, lifestyle choices, etc.

It looks better enough now to even speak, 2 days ago was the real problem! But oh well, that’s how the cookie crumbles when you battle allergies like me. Plus it’s extremely dusty!!!!

I have added a few new products to my routine to help soothe and keep up with the environment.

Be kind to your skin at every season! 🤎 by @onokesplace

Plain body oil always felt like nothing to me - like I hadn’t applied anything at all. So I went looking for something between an oil and a cream, and landed on a biphase formula: an oil phase and a water phase that need a shake to come together. Light, fast-absorbing, no greasy residue - which matters in this climate. That’s Silk Body Oil. by @onokesplace

I’m careful with the word ‘glow’ on Glow Soufflé (Black soap), because this isn’t a lightening soap - it’s a restorative one. Lactic acid. Willow bark extract. Brown sugar, African black soap, oils and butters. With consistent use, it softens the look of scars and blemishes. That’s the whole job, nothing more. by @onokesplace

People ask what’s actually in each Onokesplace product.

Onokes Body Butter: Mango butter, Kokum butter, avocado butter, baobab oil, Rice bran oil.

Glow Soufflé: African black soap, lactic acid, willow bark extract, brown sugar, oils & butters - made to renew , not just clean.

Silk Body Oil: An oil phase built on lemongrass-infused carrier oil, golden jojoba oil, sea buckthorn etc, plus a water phase of glycerin, rose water, panthenol and Allantoin - shaken together right before it touches your skin. Three different jobs - no added fragrance, no essential oils, no synthetic fragrance anywhere in the line. If I can’t explain why an ingredient is in there, it’s not going in there.

Three products. One system.

Glow Soufflé to cleanse - without stripping, without altering.

Onokes Body Butter to feed your skin daily.

Silk Body Oil to seal in moisture on humid/hot days or when your skin needs more.

If your skin has been through bleaching, breakouts, sensitivity or you just don’t know what’s safe anymore - this is for you. I didn’t build Onokesplace for everyone. I built it for the tired woman and man. If that’s you, keep watching. by @onokesplace

I didn’t use anything on my skin growing up. In university, people kept saying - you’re a young woman, you should take care of your skin. So I went looking. Wrong store, wrong lady - ‘something that will shine your skin,’ she said. And when people started saying ‘you are glowing’, I chased that feeling. I wasn’t chasing a tone. I was chasing being told I looked good - and I don’t think I’m the only one. by @onokesplace

My mum saw my legs one day while I was doing chores around the house. I was in shorts. She looked at me - not with anger, but shock and worry at the same time - and said, “whatever you are using, stop it immediately”. That was the day I actually saw my own legs. Every color under the sun. I hadn’t even noticed until she did. This is where Onokesplace really Started. by @onokesplace

Nobody taught us how to take care of skin like ours. They just sold us things to change it.

Melanin rich skin isn’t difficult. It isn’t high maintenance. It just has specific needs that most products were never designed to meet, because most products weren’t designed with us in mind.

It loses water faster. It needs weight, not water. It responds to being fed, not corrected.

That’s not a complaint. That’s just information that took me longer to find than it should have. by @onokesplace

There’s a specific kind of relief that comes with a cloudy day when you’re bleaching your skin.

No sun means no exposure. No redness from products reacting. No blisters. No having to explain why certain parts of you look the way they do. Just you, existing in skin you’ve borrowed from a version of yourself you were trying to leave behind.

The sun was never the problem. It was just the one thing that couldn’t be managed or covered or reasoned with. It just showed up and told the truth.

Rainy days don’t feel like relief anymore. They’re just rainy days. That’s the whole difference. by @onokesplace
