The Little Summer That Refuses to Leave
In Spain, when the first hints of autumn arrive but the sun suddenly decides it is not quite finished yet, people call it “Veranillo de San Miguel”—the Little Summer of Saint Michael.

It usually appears around 29 September, the feast day of Saint Michael: a few wonderfully warm days that give everyone one last excuse to enjoy outdoor life before autumn fully takes over. Jackets are briefly abandoned, terraces fill up again, and summer acts as though it forgot to check the calendar.

The saying is also known as “Veranillo del Membrillo”, or the Quince Little Summer. That name comes from quince season, when this fragrant golden fruit ripens. In other words, autumn brings us warm sunshine, ripe fruit and the perfect weather for pretending winter is still far away.

So, if temperatures rise again at the end of September, don’t worry—summer hasn’t returned. It has simply come back for one final encore… probably wearing sunglasses and asking for quince paste. taken in Costa Del Sol, Spain by @onou.experiences
