Ontario Palestinian Rights Association has signed on the call by @musiciansforpalestinemtl, alongside 34 other social justice and human rights groups from across Canada, calling on Marie-Philippe Bouchard, (President and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada) to cancel CBC/Radio-Canada’s participation in Eurovision 2027.

✍️ Open-letter to organizations representing Canadian musicians.

In 2027, a Canadian musician is going to be placed in a position where their participation in Eurovision will make them complicit in legitimizing genocide.

On September 9, 2026 CBC/ Radio-Canada closed its Eurovision registration portal for artists without a single major Canadian arts organization publicly opposing Canada’s participation in a contest that Ireland’s national broadcaster has deemed “unconscionable given the ongoing and appalling loss of lives in Gaza”.

The organizations that exist to represent Canadian artists; @socanmusic, @cfmusicians, @cimamusic75, @songwriterscanada (SAC), �@spacq_ae, @canadian_live, @actraracs, @artscoalitionca, and every other body claiming to speak for Canadian cultural workers have a responsibility to publicly call on CBC/Radio-Canada to withdraw from Eurovision 2027 until Israel is excluded.

The deadline for entries might have passed but the �decision has not been finalized yet. CBC will determine a shortlist of finalists, to be announced this fall, followed by a public vote and industry jury. The selection process is not over and the window for institutional intervention, in preventing arts-washing of genocide, remains open. Every step of this process can be interrupted by institutional action and pressure from organizations that represent Canadian musicians and artists.

SOCAN, CFM, CIMA, CARAS, and other major orgs representing Canadian musicians, must issue public statements advising their members not to participate in CBC’s selection process and calling on CBC/Radio-Canada to withdraw Canada from Eurovision until Israel is excluded.

Today the Canadian Government ‘announced’ they are considering restrictions on settlement goods. Shortly after, Prime Minister Mark Carney, along with France and the UK stated they will “take steps to ban the importation of goods from settlements and enforce targeted measures against settlements and those who facilitate them or profit from them.” While we welcome the step, it is insufficient.

We know many goods are being imported to Canada from illegal settlements. We also know there are many other avenues in which Canada is aiding and assisting Israel’s illegal settlement enterprise (in violation of Canadian and international law).

That is why we are demanding the government take fulsome action when it states it will “enforce targeted measures against settlements and those who facilitate them or profit from them” [emphasis added]. The framing of the statement positions the “systematic settlement expansion” as an external issue. In reality, the Canadian government, and many businesses and charities are all actively facilitating the maintenance and expansion of illegal settlements. This double standard was made clear in Canada’s earlier statement today where they said “We firmly oppose actions tantamount to the annexation of Palestinian land and forcible displacement of the Palestinian population.”

Yet, they actively contribute to the these exact things through
‣ Import and export of goods
‣ Investments
‣ Services, including strategic and military support
‣ Arms transfers
‣ Charitable tax breaks
‣ Allowing Canadian companies to operate in illegal settlements (e.g., Aldo)
‣ Allowing the sale of Palestinian land in Canada

Banning settlement goods is one step, but it is just that. We need more, urgently. The Palestinian people cannot wait. The Canadian government must end all support of Israel’s illegal settlement enterprise.

For decades, Canadian charities have funnelled taxpayer-subsidized funds to Israel. Some send money directly to support State activities, including illegal settlements and military operations. Others give indirectly to pro-Israeli organizations that spread zionist propaganda and anti-Palestinian racism.

We call this the Canada-to-Israel Charity Pipeline, and we’re here to shut it down!

Canada is complicit. It is (past) time for the CRA to take action to halt its participation in the ongoing colonization of Palestine, through the facilitation of taxpayer-subsidized funds for a genocidal military and apartheid regime.

For the past two years, we’ve been fighting the Canada-to-Israel Charity Pipeline with annual actions across so-called Canada. Our work builds on Defund Racism, “a Palestinian-led movement to end the use of ‘charitable’ funds raised in the [so-called] United States to carry out the mission of Israeli settler organizations.”

In 2024, our first year, communities around the country showed up at Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) offices for the International Day of Charity on September 5 to demand an end to taxpayer-funded support for genocide. In 2025, that single day grew into a full week of action. This year, we’re escalating further!

Over two weeks, from August 31 to September 12, our communities will directly confront complicit organizations, demanding they stop using charitable donations to fund genocide, apartheid, and the illegal occupation of Palestine.

UN Watch is a nongovernmental organization that argues it “monitors the performance of the United Nations according to the yardstick of its charter and promotes human rights for all.” They do not provide the types of necessary critique of the UN system’s ties to whiteness and imperialism; rather, the UN Watch acts as a pro-Israel lobby group. This is not unlike the work of HonestReporting Canada or NGO Monitor. As PHROC and PNGO have noted, “the research conducted by some of these actors is disingenuous, defamatory, and politically charged, which supports Israel‟s agenda in targeting Palestinian civil society, including human rights organizations in the OPT.”

Although based in Switzerland, UN Watch offers tax-deductible receipts for donations in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Belgium. In Canada, it is a registered charity, however, its entire website simply links to UN Watch’s international website.

UN Watch is led by Canadian lawyer, Hillel Neuer. Neuer is also the founding chairman for the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy. For this work, McGill University awarded him an honorary Doctorate of Laws degree. He has also spoken in Canadian parliament, as recently as April 2026.

Neuer and UN Watch actively spread Israeli propaganda, including that Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a Palestinian doctor who was abducted by the Israeli military, is actually a “Hamas officer”, that “UNRWA is infested with terrorists”, and that Palestinian journalists are in fact “terrorists for Hamas and PIJ.”

But it's not just that, their financials also show that its actions are similar to that of HonestReporting Canada, whose charitable organization (HR Canada Charitable Organization) CRA is in the process of revoking. Like in that case, UN Watch Canada has failed to:
1. be constituted and operated exclusively for charitable purposes as it purposefully acted as a conduit for United Nations Watch, a non-qualified donee;
2. devote resources to charitable activities carried on by the Applicant itself; and
3. maintain adequate books and records

New academic article by Dr. Miles Howe published by State Crime Journal!

Abstract
Khalidi posited that Zionism could be characterized by a state of triangulated leverage operating between a Zionist oligarchy, a gentile sponsor state, and a broader Jewish community. Via recourse to tax return data, this paper situates the United Israel Appeal of Canada (UIAC) as a philanthropic nucleus where the interests, efforts, and influence of each three points on Khalidi’s triangle might be readily observed. With its formal relationship to a gridwork of Canadian Jewish Federations – and the state of Israel itself – the UIAC has for decades been the preeminent mover of taxpayer subsidized charitable donations from Canada to Israel. Arguably in contravention of charity law surrounding the operation of related businesses, the UIAC’s main agent in Israel, the Jewish Agency for Israel (JA), operates for-profit construction, property management, and real estate companies. Moreover, bringing into doubt Zionism’s ideological compatibility with common law understandings of charity, the JA’s historical and ongoing role in the colonization of Israel has been one predicated upon an exclusive, racist, conferral of charity that arguably fails the Canada Revenue Agency’s public benefits test.

If you walk with so-called “israel”, you walk for gside, apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and literal yhatzee-ism.

Yesterday was the annual UJA Walk with “israel”, and the Toronto police went hard. While they usually corner anti-gside protesters behind barricades on the sidewalk, this year they wouldn’t even let protesters stand on sidewalks or even public parks, and instead used horses, dogs, and bikes in an attempt to violently funnel protesters as far away from the “parade” as possible.

This is all part of Toronto’s growing and ever worsening police overreach, enacted through police actions like Project Resolute and Task Force Guardian etc.

What does it say when we live in a state where opposing the m*rder of children gets you violently arrested, while those hosting a literal “parade” for m*rder are being not only celebrated but protected?
