Dedem Sedat Erem’i Cumartesi Niğde’de defnettik. 90 yıllık ömrünün son 10 senesine kadar çalışmış, son 10 yılındaysa emeklilik hayatını Niğde’de futbol hariç her türlü sporu izleyerek geçirmişti. Birkaç yıl önceye kadar kravatını asla eksik etmeyen gerçek bir beyefendiydi. Beğendiğim mor kravatına el koymuş, son 10 yılda gittiğim her düğünde onu giymiştim. Londra’ya taşınmadan önce de, Niğde-İstanbul uzaklığı nedeniyle sık görüşemezdik ama taşındıktan sonra çok daha az zaman geçirebildim onunla. Bana aile tarihini anlatmaktan hoşlanır, İngiltere’deki hayatım hakkında sorular sorardı. Londra’dan iş teklifi aldığım gün de onun yanındaydım. O da benim kadar sevinmiş, akşam kutlamak için bir balıkçıya gittiğimizde, yurt dışında ülkemizi düzgün temsil etmenin öneminden uzunca bahsetmişti. Sevindiğim bir şey de pandemiden önce babam ve kardeşimle birlikte beni ziyaret etmesi ve ona Londra’yı gezdirebilmemdi. Bense, onun yaklaşık son 10 yılını geçirdiği ve beni de hep davet ettiği Niğde’deki evini yalnızca bu hafta sonu, onun yokluğunda gördüm. İnsanlara yardım etmeyi seven biriydi ve bugüne kadar temas ettiği herkesin de onu güzel bir şekilde anacağını biliyorum. Seni çok özleyeceğiz. Huzur içinde uyu. by @onur.erem

Starting exploring the Michelin Bib Gourmand list restaurants in London. There will be less travels for us in the winter so this will give us something to look forward to each month. Today we went to Imad’s Syrian Kitchen in Soho. They recommended us to get 1-2 starters and 1 main each so we ordered 3 starters and 2 mains to share, which was more than enough. @catrinehalanddiary picked most of the starters: Hummus, Baba Ghanoj and Fattoush Salad. I was hesitant to get hummus as I wanted to try something new but it was a joy to eat the best hummus of my life, with a very soft pita bread. The pomegranate in baba ghanoj and the crispy flatbread on top of the Fattoush salad gave them a distinct taste. These three were a balanced set of starters.
For mains, our options were a bit limited because of allergic reasons and we decided to get the shaqaf and kabsah muzat. The first one is grilled lamb skewers with sweet potato and sauteed greens while the second one is lamb shank. Although I enjoyed both of them, starters were the stars of the show.
The drinks: Because I’m having a dry month, I tried the non-alcoholic cocktail Polo Spritz. It was refreshing, tasted better than I expected. Cat had a Pistachio Gin Sour so I had to give my dry month a break for a sip but it was worth it. It left a sweet and pistachio after taste, thanks to the pistachio syrup they use.
As a person enjoying Turkish tea after Turkish meals, I ordered Syrian tea after the meal. It had a nice smell thanks to the herbs inside, it had different aromas compared to the Turkish tea. taken in Imad's Syrian Kitchen by @onur.erem
