POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Just won a New England Emmy.
For a story that began in a prison cell… now echoing through television screens.

“Don’t Judge Me” — a documentary based on my truth, produced by GBH News, about a kid from Boston, locked up at 16, sentenced to 12½ years, but never sentenced in spirit.

I came home with nothing but a dream—
To make music.
To write scripts.
To act.
To speak up.
To live free.

I walked through systemic racism.
I survived the streets.
I endured the silence of a cell.
But I never let it break my mind.
Because freedom starts—and finishes—with your mind.

This award isn’t just mine—
It belongs to every person who’s ever been counted out.
To those still inside, still dreaming.
To the youth who feel forgotten.
And to my city Boston 🫶🏽🤞🏾👌🏾
I am Onyx White,
and I’m just getting started.
🙏🏾💫🎤🖋️🎭

Today, my story is being featured by the Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism (BINJ) in a powerful long-form investigative article.
This isn’t just about me—it’s about accountability, second chances, and the realities many people face while navigating the justice system after incarceration. The article explores my journey from prison to becoming a counselor, filmmaker, entrepreneur, and civil rights advocate, while also examining the challenges that continue to shape that path.
Thank you to the BINJ team for taking the time to listen, investigate, and tell my story with depth and context.
No matter where you’ve been, your story matters. This is only the beginning.
🖤 Read the full feature through the link in my bio and let me know your thoughts. #jounalistspeakup taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @onyxwhite3

From a Cell to a Signal: An Edward R. Murrow Award for “Don’t Judge Me”

I didn’t just tell my story. I told our truth.
And now, it echoes beyond bars and boundaries—
Honored with a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
From a 6x8 cell to a national stage.
From silence to sound.
From “you’ll never make it” to I already did.
“Don’t Judge Me” is more than a documentary.
It’s a mirror.
A mic.
A message for every kid told their past defines them.
I was 16 when they locked me up.
12½ years they gave me—
But they never owned my spirit.
I came home with no blueprint.
Just bars in my head and fire in my chest.
I wrote. I rapped. I dreamed. I acted. I healed.
I found power in my pain.
And turned my sentence into a stage.
This award?
It’s for the misjudged.
The misunderstood.
The forgotten youth still behind walls.
For Boston—my city, my compass.
For the movement. For the culture.
I am Onyx White.
And I’m not a statistic.
I’m a storyteller.
And I’m just getting started.
🙏🏾💫🎤🖋️🎭

🔥👑 THE ONYX WHITE SHOW: THE SILENCE BEHIND THE BADGE 👑🔥
I confronted Christopher Tobin outside the courthouse with one question: Why did you remain silent when your partner, Yasmin Sobrinho, allegedly lied about me?
The consequences changed my life—incarceration, court battles, restrictions on my freedom, and damage to my reputation. I’ve fought through multiple judicial proceedings seeking justice and accountability.
This is bigger than me. When officers are accused of misconduct, who holds them accountable? We must unite, demand transparency, and refuse to let important questions go unanswered.
🎥 Watch the confrontation. Hear the questions. Judge for yourself.

Where’s Mayor WU-WU ? Boston, I want you to question your thinking this election season.
Stop voting just because somebody has a red label or a blue label. Stop following politicians like they’re sports teams.
Look at the record.
Boston is dealing with rising housing costs, gentrification concerns, major development projects like the $325 million White Stadium project, and budget decisions that have included cuts to certain programs—including services affecting formerly incarcerated people.
And my question is simple:
Who is Boston really working for?
Because Black people deserve more than representation on a campaign poster. We deserve safety, housing, economic opportunity, accountability, and protection from government abuse.
I’m standing here because I’ve personally experienced what it feels like to challenge the Boston police and demand accountability.
So don’t just ask, “Do I like this politician?”
Ask:
Who benefits? Who gets pushed out? Who gets protected? Who gets ignored? And where is the money going?
Democrat, Republican, progressive, conservative—it doesn’t matter.
Follow the facts, not the color of the jersey.
And when politicians fail the people, we have to be willing to say it—even when they’re on our side. taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @onyxwhite3

• I tried to hold the Massachusetts State Police accountable.
On April 9, 2025, I was stopped by Massachusetts State Police Trooper Yasmin Sobrinho - who may now be using the last name Silva - and that traffic stop turned into my arrest, criminal charges, months of restrictions, ankle monitoring, and the possibility of going to prison.
But the criminal case against me was ultimately dismissed after a judge found that materially false information had been presented against me.
I didn't just walk away from that.
I went back and tried to press criminal charges against the trooper for what I believed was false arrest, falsifying evidence, and perjury.
And when I finally got my hearing, I walked into that courtroom with evidence.
I brought the prior judge's ruling.
I brought the body-camera footage.
I brought documentation showing the inconsistencies in what had been reported about me.
I believed the evidence spoke for itself.
But what | experienced in that courtroom was something | will never forget.
I felt like I was fighting the judge, the troopers, and the system all at once.
No matter what evidence I presented, I felt like nobody wanted to hear It.
And at the end of that hearing, I was the one who ended up being locked up... KEEP WATCHING FOR THE REST... LIKE/ SHARE CHECK OUT LINKS IN BI0

🎙️ THE ONYX WHITE SHOW — BOSTON, WAKE UP!
Yesterday I was back in Dorchester Court over the Boston traffic stop where I was beaten and dragged by Boston police officers.
Here’s the problem: the body-camera footage doesn’t capture the beginning of the encounter—the exact portion where officers claim I was acting “suspicious” and say that justified ordering me out of my vehicle and searching me.
And it doesn’t stop there. Multiple detectives’ body cameras are missing from the evidence, with no explanation.
How are people supposed to trust the evidence when critical footage is missing?
The officers involved are still employed and patrolling Boston streets.
This isn’t just about me. It’s about every motorist of color who has to question whether the complete truth will ever make it into the courtroom.
And while people are demanding accountability, Mayor Wu remains quiet while Boston continues investing heavily in policing and other city projects.
🎙️ THE ONYX WHITE SHOW
If the cameras are supposed to protect everyone, why is so much of the footage missing?

What’s it like to go to jail at age 16 and then – 12 years later – return home?

Onyx White - an aspiring musician - takes viewers along on that journey as he seeks to make a life in the Boston neighborhood where he grew up one of 10 children.

Viewers get an intimate view of White’s life as he works to launch a music career, find stable housing and – most importantly – avoid the parole violations that land many returning citizens back in jail. taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @onyxwhite3
