RED THREAD | خيط أحمر

في استوديو تصوير تحت مركز تجاري منسي، يجتمع طاقم الفيلم لاستقبال مجموعة تمّت دعوتها إلى جلسة تجارب أداء غير عادية.

ومع دوران الكاميرا، يبدأ الماضي بالتسلل إلى الحاضر، ليقود الجميع إلى دهاليز ذاكرة حاول الجميع طيّها منذ زمن.

In the dim glow of a forgotten mall’s basement, a group of filmmakers summons three strangers to a photography studio for an unusual audition.

As the camera rolls, fragments of the past seep into the present, pulling the strangers into the labyrinth of memories they’ve long buried.

Looking back at the opening night of Rumman Festival, when architecture, memory, and public space merged into a live dialogue.

Kicking off the festival at Stereo Kawalis, Black Mouse: Deconstructed—co-produced by @rummantripoli and @oobconcept —reimagined Ahmad Naboulsi’s short film into an immersive live audiovisual experience.

Through the haunting vocals of soprano @monahallab, sound design and music production by @joy_moughanni, and spatial scenography by @firaselhallak, the performance invited audiences to step inside the architecture of the Rachid Karami International Fair and rethink the spaces we share.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this unforgettable night possible, and special appreciation to our collaborators and supporters: Tunefork Studios, Gearcheck, Rachelle Noja, and db Studios.

We’re excited to screen Red Thread, a short film by Ahmad Naboulsi, tomorrow, Saturday, September 19, at 8 PM at Metropolis @metropoliscinema as part of Écrans du réel - Doc Screens.

Set in a forgotten space, the film follows three strangers as an unexpected encounter brings buried memories to the surface, blurring the lines between memory and reality.

This year, we’re kicking off #RMF05 with the premiere of Black Mouse: Deconstructed, a co-production by @rummantripoli and @oobconcept that reimagines Ahmad Naboulsi’s award-winning short film as an immersive live audiovisual performance.

By weaving together music, voice, light, and fragments of memory, the project seeks to briefly reactivate the Tripoli International Fair: a monumental site shaped by history, absence, and political neglect. Rather than relying on a conventional score, soprano @monahallab, producer @joy_moughanni, and scenographer @firaselhallak expand the film's narrative into a live dialogue with the space itself. It’s an invitation to collectively question what public space can be, who has the right to occupy it, and whether art can carve out a temporary space for reclamation.

Ahmad Naboulsi
Independent filmmaker, screenwriter, and multidisciplinary artist from Tripoli, Lebanon.

His work is grounded in the cultural and historical depth of his hometown. His films explore the human experience through memory, transformation, and the hidden dynamics of everyday life. What a city holds under its surface, and what surfaces when you point a camera at it.

He brings two short films shot in Tripoli, *Black Mouse* and *Red Thread*, both circling the city’s abandoned spaces and the stories left inside them.

« Sometimes a place you’ve never seen remembers a place you’ve always known. Maybe that’s where the conversation begins. »

He joins the conversation that closes the evening.

Ahmad Naboulsi
Réalisateur indépendant, scénariste et artiste multidisciplinaire, de Tripoli, au Liban.

Son travail puise dans la profondeur culturelle et historique de sa ville natale. Ses films explorent l’expérience humaine à travers la mémoire, la transformation, et les dynamiques cachées du quotidien. Ce qu’une ville garde sous sa surface, et ce qui remonte quand on y pointe une caméra.

Il présente deux courts métrages tournés à Tripoli, *Black Mouse* et *Red Thread*, qui tournent tous deux autour des espaces abandonnés de la ville et des récits qu’ils gardent en eux.

« Parfois, un lieu qu’on n’a jamais vu se souvient d’un lieu qu’on a toujours connu. C’est peut-être là que commence la conversation. »

Il rejoint la discussion qui clôt la soirée.
