'Tis the season for corduroy!

Another special dad shirt in one week!
This one was brought in with some pretty serious rips and tears. Some had been fixed over time with a whipstitch, but it wasn't a long term solution.
This person decided that shortening the sleeves and using the fabric that was cut off would be a great way to play with the plaid and have some fun with the patches.
And it really was!

I'm so pleased with how this one turned out 😊 I missed taking more before and after photos, but I'm stoked that the ones I got give a good impression of both.

Here's to saving and repairing good memory pieces!

Someone brought me some fabric to have a shirt made for a special occasion. It was the closest fabric they could find for the assignment so on we went!
It was shiny, it was alippery, it was kinda "wiry", and hoo boy did it it fray!

The good news is, it all worked out really well! They have a lovely shirt and can enjoy their occasion without a worry 😀

Someone brought me a shirt they were hoping I could fix up to elongate its life. It's very special to them and they would really like to continue wearing it for another while.
They also brought a small piece of navy fabric and some ideas of where to use it.

The first thing I tackled was fixing several small holes in the front and back body of the shirt. The fabric is old and thin so it's best to catch them before they get bigger or turn into runs.
Next, I hand stitched the holes on the inside of the collar, and then added a strip of fabric to the collar on the fold line, where it was worn through and discoloured.

The biggest and trickiest fix was adding the yoke on the shoulders to cover up the shredded shoulder seams. I patched the seams first for stability, then created a yoke. It's a real challenge to do on a garment that's already made, but also stretched out and flimsy!

The final move was to replace the worn out and torn hems on the sleeves and body with coloured bands to match the yoke.

I feel this one is an overall success, and I hope this shirt brings good memories and comfort for another good while! 💚💙🤍

Someone brought in their strapless party dress because they didn't feel confident that they could party securely without it slipping a little (or a lot!).
They were hoping straps could be added.
Straps could be added!
Fabric straps in a pretty perfect match were added in a width that suited the banding in the original dress design, made to look as if they were there all along.
The black fabric is a stretchy knit, so the straps were stabilized inside to ensure they did the job of holding everything in place.
Let the worry- free partying begin! 🎉

Someone brought me an old favourite T-shirt that didn't fit right anymore and asked if I could use the graphic on the front of a pair of unders.
Why of course! I made this pair of Frankenpants for her in the world of colours she requested out of stretchy cotton jersey, and finished them with this fun multi-coloured trim.
The BS on the front feels like a real power move, and they are also her initials!
Frankenpants are also a great use of small bits and pieces instead of putting them in the landfill 🩷🌎

These are one of a kind bags made from the large burlap sacs that unroasted coffee beans come in.

The linings are durable fabric with two inside pockets.
