A huge thank you to everyone who stopped in last night as part of @niagarafrontierfoodterminal’s portal event! It was so exciting to have lots of folks in the space, and it was clear that the community wants more drop-in drawing nights - we’ll have those coming soon! by @openartsbuf

Join us Friday, October 2 from 6-10pm for Portal, an open house of many businesses and art studios at @niagarafrontierfoodterminal. We will be hosting ✨free✨ costumed figure drawing for the evening - come by and draw with us while entering in the passport program for great prizes, including an 8-week class voucher! by @openartsbuf

We’re so excited to have Michael Long joining us as one of the judges for the 2026 Buffalo Plein Air Competition in Hamburg, NY!

SEPTEMBER 12TH 2027

Michael is a lifelong artist specializing in oil painting and drawing, and the founder of Buffalo Open Arts Atelier. His experience as both an artist and educator makes him an incredible addition to our judging panel.

On Saturday, September 12, artists will spend the morning painting en plein air throughout the designated competition area in the Village of Hamburg. From 1:30 to 4 PM, come see the finished work and vote for your favorite during the People’s Choice exhibition at Sandbaggers Artist Alley, located between Sandbaggers Golf Bar and United World Martial Arts.

From 2 to 3 PM, Michael and our other judges will be doing the blind judging, followed by the awards announcement at 3 PM.

You don’t have to be a participating artist to be part of the day. Come see local artists create, view the exhibition, support small businesses in the Village of Hamburg, meet the artists, vote for People’s Choice, buy a piece of art and celebrate the winners with us.

We’re working hard to bring more fine art and creative opportunities into our community, and your support means everything.

September 12, 2026 | Hamburg, NY
Exhibition: 1:30 to 4 PM | Judging: 2 to 3 PM |

We hope to see you there!

I’m taking a drawing class at @openartsbuf because I want to get more comfortable with and feel better about drawing my own designs for linocut.

I was putting off working on my homework, though, because the size of our current project is so LORGE. As usual, @katkissick offered encouragement and inspired me to set up my drawing board like this on my new workbench.

It works super well! The drawer liner that I covered the workbench in grips the board enough that it doesn’t need further support.

(Please don’t judge my in-progress drawing - except to praise me. I am a delicate flower, thank you.)
