Pastor Marc* leads a church in Ituri Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo—an area already ravaged by extremist attacks, displacement and trauma. ⁠⁠Now Ebola has arrived. ⁠⁠Where he lives, at least six pastors have died from the virus. Sunday school is suspended. Baptisms have stopped. And communion has been paused. ⁠⁠Every Sunday, fewer people walk through church doors. ⁠⁠He shared with our local partners: “We wake up with news of deaths. We see on our phones messages of bad news. Our local partners recently shared video footage from Chhattisgarh, India, where thousands gathered in Narayanpur district for a rally against Christian conversion—accusing believers of undermining their culture and traditions. The rally itself was peaceful. ⁠⁠By evening, however, violence came swiftly. ⁠⁠A single mother and her children were forcibly expelled from their village. The following day, extremists drove two more families from their homes—for no reason other than their faith. Police are currently protecting these families, but their situation is still fragile and frightening. ⁠⁠Our local partner Aarav* is asking Christians around the world to join him in prayer right now: ⁠⁠"Please pray for God's protection, strength and provision for the displaced believers," Aarav says. Today is the International Day of Justice—and for Bangladeshi Christians like Suman and Rebekah [pictured], justice is a matter of survival. ⁠⁠They were among several believers in Bangladesh recently attacked for their faith. ⁠⁠On a day when the world talks about justice, we're asking you to do something that goes even deeper: pray. ⁠⁠Prayer reaches places people cannot. It moves what policies cannot. And for believers like Suman and Rebekah—surrounded by danger and forgotten by the world—it is not a small thing. Meet Rufo.* ⁠⁠At 25, she's about to become a teacher in northern Kenya — something that once seemed impossible. ⁠⁠Rufo came to faith in 2023 through a moment of healing. A pastor prayed for her, and the chronic pain in her chest left. She gave her life to Jesus and began worshipping at a local church. For a young woman from a Muslim background, that decision came with a cost. ⁠⁠Rufo's life before that moment had already been marked by loss and injustice. After her parents divorced, she and her four siblings grew up in difficult circumstances. When their mother died, an uncle took illegal possession of the family’s farm. Her father sold what remained, refusing the children their rightful inheritance. ⁠⁠When she asked her father to pay the fees to help send her sister to school, he violently attacked her. She reported it. Nothing happened. ⁠⁠Eventually, their father gave them a small piece of land. They built a grass-thatched house and tried to survive. He continued to harass them daily—even threatening them with sexual violence. ⁠⁠But then you stepped into their lives. ⁠⁠Because of your prayers and support, Open Doors local partners were able to bring support. Today, Rufo’s siblings are in school. Her college fees are covered. And her family has a safe home — where they can worship freely without fear. ⁠⁠Rufo is about to live out her dream of becoming a teacher. And she has a message for everyone whose prayers and support made it possible: ⁠⁠"I am grateful. May God bless you wherever you are. May God give you everything you expect. They were told to leave. ⁠⁠Eight Christian families in Laos—driven from their village by persecutors and local authorities—were sent to undeveloped land deep in the dense forest. Barely livable. No infrastructure. Simple subsistence farms surrounded by trees. ⁠⁠"You Jesus people must move there," authorities told them. ⁠⁠Phonesay*, one of the believers, remembers the frustration he felt: “Is this the Lord's plan? His plan is for me to leave my parents and relatives to live in the forest?!" ⁠⁠The isolation and loss were real. Leaving behind family, community and everything familiar—for dense forest and undeveloped land—was no small thing. ⁠⁠But God did not leave them there alone. ⁠⁠Open Doors local partners came alongside them with construction supplies, food, and help to clear the land. And slowly—out of hardship—something unexpected grew. ⁠⁠For the first time, these families could worship freely. Together. Every day. They carved a small church out of extra space in one of their huts. They studied Scripture. They learned to share the gospel. And they went out and proclaimed it. ⁠⁠“Living in the forest with other believers made me happy because we shared the same faith,” Phonesay says. “The Lord gave us time to worship Him. We worshiped Him every day.” ⁠⁠The forest is hard. But God has been faithful. Still, Phonesay and his wife, Kanya*, are praying for a larger worship space and a more livable situation. They shared their prayer requests: ⁠⁠• “Please pray that the Lord will provide a better house so we can sleep comfortably,” Phonesay asks. ⁠⁠• He also asks: “Pray for my family to understand each other and serve the Lord together.” ⁠⁠• Kanya is dealing with sickness. She asks us to pray for healing and that God would grant her desire to serve Him more. ⁠⁠• Kanya and Phonesay’s children aren’t able to attend school—please pray they will grow in knowledge, both in school subjects and in the Lord. ⁠⁠• Kanya asks: “Pray that whatever happens, I will stand firm and never deny Him. The appeals for four Iranian Christians have all been denied in Iranian courts. The believers you see here will remain in prison for a combined total of 70 years, reports @Article18. ⁠⁠Their “crimes”? Praying together. Performing baptisms. Celebrating communion. Gathering in house churches. ⁠⁠Today, pray by name for Nasser Navard Gol-Tappeh, Joseph and Lida Shahbazian, and Aida Najaflou (pictured l-r). ⁠⁠In Iran, following Jesus can cost you everything. But the church presses on. Her name is Jenny. She is the daughter of Simon Haddad—martyred for his faith. ⁠⁠Only a few weeks ago, Jenni and the members of Saint Elias Church in Syria faced the one-year anniversary of the June 22, 2025, terrorist attack on their church that killed her father and 21 others. ⁠⁠During the recent anniversary service, Jenny spoke directly to you—to all those who prayed, who remembered, who didn't look away. ⁠⁠“Thank you from my heart to everyone who remembered us and supported us with their prayers and words. I send you all my love and gratitude—and may our Lord be with you and strengthen you." ⁠⁠Your prayers reached Damascus. Every school said no. ⁠⁠In Iran, school enrollment forms require parents to declare their religion. For Hamid* and Hoda*—an Iranian Christian couple—that declaration meant rejection, again and again. ⁠⁠"We went from one school to another," Hoda recalls. "But whenever the administrators realized we were Christians, they rejected us." ⁠⁠So, they did what they knew to do. They continued to pray, continued to press on. ⁠⁠A few weeks later, they walked into one more school. The principal reviewed their application—and smiled. He accepted their child’s application. ⁠⁠"That moment reminded us how powerful and effective prayer is," Hoda shares. "We realized once again that our Lord is a God of miracles. He answered our prayers, opening doors that seemed impossible to open." ⁠⁠God is still working in Iran and in so many hard-to-reach places.
