We built a smart living room at IFA Berlin 🛋️ IFA is one of Europe's biggest tech shows, and one of the few that opens its doors to the public. Every device in the room was smart: the lights, the speakers, the displays, a CD wall you play by tapping a physical tag. Each from a different brand. All of it running locally, on one Home Assistant Green, with nothing phoning home. It also had sofas, cushions, plants, and a coffee pot, so most people sat down before they noticed any of that. Hanging between the cushions, a framed cross-stitch reading "f*ck VCs and private equity" 🧵 Nonprofit ownership is what keeps your smart home out of somebody's exit plan. We're closing our merch store‼️ (temporarily) We're moving warehouses, and improving our systems. So the store's going to be unavailable for about two weeks, starting Sept 17. Days 1 and 2 IFA Berlin 2026 went by in a flash! 😅 Our cozy smart home (located at H1.2-153) has been packed since we opened it up Friday morning. We'll be here until Tuesday, so make sure to stop by if you're attending the event. Hope to see you soon 🤩 #OpenHomeatIFA26 Florencia Martin, Event Organizer at the Open Home Foundation, stands in front of the TV and TV stand in our booth, with "The meet and greet starts now!" text displaying on the TV. On the TV stand sits a Yale smart lock, a tablet with a sentiment question prompt about our booth, a framed cross stitch that says "fuck VCs and private equity" (hand made by Clelia Rella, Graphic Designer at the foundation), a Home Assistant Voice Preview edition, and a small temperature sensor. On the wall to the right of Florencia are CD cases with open license music artists on floating shelves with NFC tags inside to tap the Music Assistant box below the shelves and play the music - there are VPE devices throughout the booth hooked together that will play the music perfectly in sync. by @openhomefoundation
