Making a festival takes time. A year-round process shaped by people, care, and countless decisions that often remain unseen.

The place is not a backdrop but an active participant—evolving through encounters, architecture, and collective practices that grow year after year.

We do not simply place a festival within a landscape. We work with it, allowing a process of mutual transformation to unfold.

Through reclaimed materials, shared labour, and artistic experimentation, Opera Festival is more than a temporary event: it is an ongoing dialogue between culture, landscape, and community.

At dawn on Friday 21 August, the special project Etna Morning unfolds, offering early risers a rare opportunity to experience the volcanic landscape at sunrise.

This year, Opera Festival presents a sunrise performance by Radio Hito (@radio_hito) an intimate listening experience inside an ancient vineyard, where voice and composition are reduced to their essential elements. Through a contemplative and deeply personal interpretation by the artist, the words of others acquire new meaning, revealing an intense poetic dimension against the unique backdrop of Mount Etna.

Il legno di castagno racconta la storia del territorio etneo e dei suoi legnamai, custodi di un sapere antico che continua a vivere attraverso i gesti, la materia e le persone.

Durante il workshop “Scacciapensieri”, guidati dagli architetti Marialaura Calogero (@marialauracalogero) e Graziano Testa (@graziano_testa) del Collettivo BohoB (@collettivobohob), gli scarti della lavorazione del castagno provenienti dalle falegnamerie di Milo si sono trasformati in piccoli talismani unici.

Ogni scacciapensieri è diventato qualcosa di più di un manufatto: un frammento di paesaggio e di storie, una traccia di esperienza condivisa.

Scacciapensieri è stato uno degli appuntamenti di “Crudo. Le Radici dell’Etna”, progetto cofinanziato dalla Regione Siciliana – Assessorato delle Attività Produttive nell’ambito dell’iniziativa “Sicilia che piace” (2026).
