ARIZONA: Billionaires Ken and Randy Kendrick have poured more than $800,000 dollars into our elections. They should listen to Mr. Snake and sign the Businesses for Democracy Pledge!

It’s time to for billionaires like the Kendricks to keep their hands off our elections. by @opinorg

NUEVO MEXICANOS: ICE and those who profit from deportation have no place in our communities. Allen Weh and his family have raked in nearly $3.9 billion in US taxpayer dollars, profiting from human suffering. Stay tuned for how you can get involved in telling Weh and his family to stop profiting from human suffering.

This Freedom Friday, with Halloween tomorrow, we’re talking about Fannie Lou Hamer and the real horror story of American democracy. All she wanted was to vote. The monster was the system that evicted her, jailed her, and beat her for it, then counted on fear to keep everyone else home.

It didn’t work. She organized her neighbors, ran for Congress, and made the whole country look at what it had done. The Voting Rights Act she fought for has been gutted, so the fight is ours now. Nobody’s free until everybody’s free.

Florida! When you’re heading to the polls make sure you don’t forget the history of working class Floridians, like the tabaqueras, standing up against fascism.

Labor journalist and historian @kimkellywriter tells us more.

Rest in power to a giant and inspiration. #doloreshuerta by @opinorg

Dolores Huerta was a giant. Generations of Latinas who look to her as a veterana and who are the beneficiaries of the space she created. We take up the baton she passed for the generations that come after us.

She was often the only woman at bargaining tables she helped build, fighting for better working conditions while facing prejudice and sexism by bosses and allies alike. As a Latina in the labor movement, she challenged the norms that kept women of color out of those spaces and brought women and families onto picket lines and up the ranks of unions and community organizations. She showed that women were and are central to the farmworkers and all workers’ collective struggle. She set an example for what solidarity looks like in the fields and in coalition that many of us are still aspiring to replicate.

I’m glad she got to see streets named for her across the country while she was alive and, now that she has passed, I will add her photo to our altar and make sure my children grow up knowing her name.

We honor her legacy by continuing to uplift workers, especially those often overlooked or pushed aside, to refuse to trade our silence as the price to pay for room for our own leadership in movement, to speak uncomfortable truths, build political power for working people, and to force our way into a labor movement that truly represents and reflects every worker. Sí Se puede!
