Housing is economic development at its most human level. This weekend, women from local government, health care, higher education, manufacturing, business, and the nonprofit sector came together for Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build.

The City was proud to participate with a team of 10 women and to encourage other employers and institutions to form teams of their own, including Centra Health, Moore & Giles, Framatome, L3Harris, Genworth and Randolph College.

Strong businesses depend on strong communities. And strong communities are built when employers and institutions invest not only through jobs and capital, but through service, leadership, and care for the people who call this place home.

This weekend was the opening of The Park at River Ridge, adding a new layer to an area that continues to evolve, creating space for live entertainment, markets, food trucks, family activities and community gatherings.

It’s also a strong example of the impact that reinvestment can have on an established commercial district. By adding new experiences and opportunities for people to gather, River Ridge is expanding its role as more than just a place to shop.

Congratulations to Lynchburg Regional Airport on receiving a $5.2 million Airport Infrastructure Grant through the FAA’s Airport Infrastructure Grant Program!

This significant investment will support the North Apron Landside Development project, creating the critical infrastructure needed for future aviation growth, including new hangar development, expanded aviation business opportunities, and additional private investment in our community.

We are excited to announce that applications are now open for CO.STARTERS for Causes, a 10-week program designed for nonprofit leaders and community-minded changemakers ready to turn good ideas into practical, sustainable plans.

Led by Elise Spontarelli, the program will help participants clarify their mission, strengthen their financial and operational models, measure impact, and plan for future growth.

Classes begin September 14 and meet Mondays at 6 p.m. at the Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance. Applications are due August 24.

Last week, the Lynchburg Economic Development Authority was proud to partner with @cloudfitsoftware to host the JobFit Talent Summit alongside local employers, colleges and universities, and 31 incredibly talented interns.

One of the biggest takeaways from the morning was this: there is more talent than one company can capture.

CloudFit is attracting more qualified applicants than it can place within its own organization. That creates an incredible opportunity for other Lynchburg employers to get involved by sponsoring interns, providing meaningful work experiences, and ultimately hiring great talent right here in our community.

That’s exactly why the EDA has supported JobFit from the very beginning. The program was created by the private sector to address workforce needs identified by the private sector, and it’s helping build the talent pipeline our community needs for the future.

The interns inspired all of us. Now it’s our turn.

The road is officially open! 🎉 Today, we celebrated with a ribbon cutting for the newly completed Main Street renewal project, marking another exciting investment in the future of Downtown Lynchburg. This project enhances connectivity, improves accessibility, and creates an even more welcoming experience for everyone who lives, works, & visits downtown.

A heartfelt thank you to the City of Lynchburg for their continued dedication to keeping Downtown Lynchburg vibrant and beautiful, and to Lynchburg Water Resources and Jamerson-Lewis Construction for their exceptional work in bringing this project to life✨
