I can’t stop looking at the World Cup goalkeeper kits. They are so, so good (the colors). I kind of want to paint them.

But I’m wondering… who decides which kits get worn? Why do some teams wear stripes and others don’t? I have so many questions 🤓

Every May or June I spend about a month in the Dominican Republic painting and swimming. This trip, I realized I’d packed all my painting supplies except my favorite tool: a mechanical pencil. I immediately thought, “I’ll just go to an art supply store,” but I was having a VPN issue and Uber kept dropping my pin in Kansas. So I had this whole plan to start these drawings with grids, which is how I’ve been working at home lately. Instead, I spent the first day sitting around the pool making quick drawings from observation because it was the only thing I could do.

At the time, I didn’t really like most of them, but I just kept making more. Since I’ve been home and had some time to sit with them, I’ve started to see them differently. The trip was great otherwise. I did a lot of swimming, and the ocean humbled me repeatedly.

I like to draw and paint with my niece.

When I look at her work, I always think the same thing: it would be so strong if she used fewer colors. She always needs the whole rainbow. Even when a few lines are really beautiful, she adds everything.

I applied that critique to myself with this one… by @orangetrouser

I’m really excited about the Pissarro work at the Denver Art Museum right now.

It’s a small show, hung chronologically, and by the end it feels less like a retrospective and more like being allowed to watch someone think.

It was a treat to see him build from painting to painting. You can sense him testing how much structure a picture needs, how much air it can hold, and then carrying those decisions forward rather than resolving everything at once. He’s incredibly process driven. taken in Denver Art Museum by @orangetrouser
