Welcome to Orbit House.
A mid-century modern home designed by Edward H. Fickett, now open for creative projects and shoots.

Ed Fickett, a graduate of FAIA and the architect behind our home, left an enduring legacy in California’s mid-century architectural scene. Born in 1916, Fickett’s influence stretched across Southern California, where he crafted over 60,000 structures ranging from tract homes to military bases.

Fickett’s expertise extended beyond residential projects. He played a pivotal role in shaping federal policies, ensuring financing for modern homes through his involvement with the federal Architectural Standards Advisory Committee. Additionally, his designs included commercial buildings, restaurants, shopping centers, and even a circular medical office on Sunset Boulevard.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Fickett was known for embracing life with gusto, often seen cruising in his Jaguar XKE. His dynamic approach to architecture mirrored his zest for life, as he continually pushed boundaries and explored innovative design concepts.

Fickett’s collaborations were also notable. He joined forces with renowned modernist architect Richard Neutra for a design clinic at Stanford University in 1960, further solidifying his influence in the architectural community.

Fickett’s architectural philosophy emphasized functionality, simplicity, and seamless integration with the environment. His designs, characterized by clean lines, flat roofs, and expansive windows, blurred the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, creating harmonious living environments.

Despite Fickett’s immense contributions, his legacy faded over time. However, a resurgence of interest in mid-century design has shed new light on his work, reaffirming his status as a trailblazer in modern architecture. Today, his creations continue to inspire architects and homeowners alike, testament to the enduring relevance of his vision. by @orbit_house_1955
