One of our favorite Gold Stone Patterns is Burkus’ Bareback Rider Gold Stone from our friends at @fulling_mill.In a world full of bulky, overdressed Chubby Cheronobyls, the Bareback Rider Gold Stone is a fantastic more subtle option. This is especially true in more pressured waters where fish will turn their nose up at your standard run of the mill gold Chubby. We love to run small Caddis, or PMD patterns behind this fly. If we don’t have a small dry tagged behind it, we have a small tungsten nymph below it.There is a full fly spotlight on the Burkus Bareback Rider Gold Stone on our blog @oregonflyfishingblog, written by Simon @fly_goddd.It goes into more detail on the fly and offers more complex summer rigs that include this summer staple.Swing by the shop and grab some or shop online @caddisflyshop.•Save this post for later or share with a buddy 💬•Shop in store or online @caddisflyshop 💻 •Read our blog @oregonflyfishingblog 📖 •Travel with us @caddis_fly_travel ✈️ •Guided trips @caddisflyshop 🎣•Learn to fly fish @caddisflyshop 🐟 •📦Free domestic shipping over $75📬•🌎 We ship worldwide! ✈️ • #fullingmill #flyfishing #flyfishingnation #matchthehatch #dryfly by @oregonflyfishingblog

We are super excited to have the Trak rod in the shop from our friends over at @looptackle.We are extremely impressed at the performance you get with the Trak rod at the price point it is at.It is a true medium-fast rod and has enough power to turn over just about any rig, with enough feel to help you make fine adjustments when needed.Swing by the shop and check them out, we have individual rods for sale, and we have built loop outfits, which are arguably the best outfits we’ve had pass through the shop.If you’re out of state shop online @caddisflyshop.•Save this post for later or share with a buddy 💬•Shop in store or online @caddisflyshop 💻 •Read our blog @oregonflyfishingblog 📖 •Travel with us @caddis_fly_travel ✈️ •Guided trips @caddisflyshop 🎣•Learn to fly fish @caddisflyshop 🐟 •📦Free domestic shipping over $75📬•🌎 We ship worldwide! ✈️ • #looptackle #flyfishing #flyfishingnation #flyfishinglife #troutfishing by @oregonflyfishingblog

What is in your summer dry fly box? Here’s a quick look in Simon’s @fly_goddd summer delicate dry fly box. You can see a mix of PMDs, Caddis, and Green Drakes. There is a particular emphasis on the PMD selection with plenty of different dubs, emergers, cripples, and especially spinners. The same goes for Drakes with there being several options, and some emergers. The drakes are tapering off, but if you are at high elevations you will still see some!We still recommend you carry a selection of gold stones, terrestrials, and sallies! For small dries we are particularly fond of the @fishpondusa Pescador Mag Pad small. It is just big enough to hold small to medium sized dries and has a magnetic pad for unweighted droppers or flies you quick swap out.Swing by the shop to load up your box or pick up one of these awesome boxes. One of our all time favorite PMD patterns is the Tactical Light Cahill Parachute from our friends over at @fulling_mill.One mistake many commercial flies have is that they aren’t tied sparsely enough. This can be a huge problem when trying to convince the large fish intermittently feeding that your PMD is the one.The Tactical Light Cahill is tied sparsely so it more closely matches proportions of the natural duns on the water. Being tied sparsely also means it floats well and sheds water quickly. It is a staple in our summer box, and should be in yours too. If you’re not convinced, Simon @fly_goddd wrote up a fly spotlight article on our blog @oregonflyfishingblog that goes into more detail about why this should be your go to PMD out West or Sulphur out East.🎥 @fly_goddd •Save this post for later or share with a buddy 💬•Shop in store or online @caddisflyshop 💻 •Read our blog @oregonflyfishingblog 📖 •Travel with us @caddis_fly_travel ✈️ •Guided trips @caddisflyshop 🎣•Learn to fly fish @caddisflyshop 🐟 •📦Free domestic shipping over $75📬•🌎 We ship worldwide! ✈️ • #flyfishing #flytying #fullingmill #matchthehatch #dryfly by @oregonflyfishingblog

Crickets are an often overlooked insect under the more broad “terrestrial” umbrella of insects. In this video, Simon @fly_goddd ties an improved version of his late summer staple terrestrial, the “driftless cricket”.When people think of terrestrial season, hoppers are typically the first insect that comes to mind. Grasshoppers are typically followed by beetles and ants in terms of popular flies thrown. Crickets are also a huge portion of a summer trout’s diet. This is especially true on smaller streams, spring creeks, and rivers with a lot of stream side brush. Because crickets are often overlooked, and very few commercial cricket patterns exist compared to other terrestrials, this makes them a fantastic option for pressured fish. This fly utilizes a new resin from @solarezusa called “Top Coat Gloss”, which is specifically formulated to coat foam flies. This not only aids in durability, but helps with buoyancy. Believe it or not, foam can wet out. This resin really makes a huge difference on this improved version of an already productive fly. Tie some up so you’re ready in the next few weeks when hatches slow and we really shift into terrestrial and attractor season.Hook- @ahrexhooks Sedge FW531: Size 12Thread- @fulling_mill Mill Black Pro Flat Thread: 70DTails- @harelinedubbin Life Flex: BlackAbdomen- @harelinedubbin 2mm Hi-Float Foam: Black, @harelinedubbin Micro Fine Dry Dub: Trico BlackLegs- @harelinedubbin Life Flex: BlackHackle- @whitingfarms Bronze Saddle: BlackWing- @fulling_mill Ultra Dry Yarn: WhiteHot Spot- @fulling_mill Ultra Dry Yarn: UV PinkUV Resin- @solarezusa Too Coat 77 Gloss (NEW)UV Torch- @loonoutdoors Plasma LightBobbin- @smhaen Tension BobbinVise- @renzettillc Master & Deluxe Streamer Base•Save this post for later or share with a buddy 💬•Shop in store or online @caddisflyshop 💻 •Read our blog @oregonflyfishingblog 📖 •Travel with us @caddis_fly_travel ✈️ •Guided trips @caddisflyshop 🎣•Learn to fly fish @caddisflyshop 🐟 •📦Free domestic shipping over $75📬•🌎 We ship worldwide! ✈️ #flytying #flyfishing #ahrexhooks #renzett by @oregonflyfishingblog

And that is why they call them rusty spinners!Mayflies under go a second metamorphosis after emerging from their nymph form. When mayflies hatch from their nymph form, they grow into a winged adult called a dun or a “submigao”.For PMDs and Sulphurs, the dun is a yellow to cream color. After the dun’s wings dry, they retreat to streamside vegetation and undergo another emergence turning into a spinner or an “imago”.For many mayflies, and especially PMDS and Sulphurs, spinners have a distinct orangish rusty color. For PMD’s fish these spinner patterns in the evenings as PMDS cloud up and mate. They fall to the water after reproducing in the evenings in an event that we as anglers call a spinner fall. We’ve got plenty of spinner patterns in the shop, swing by and get geared up or shop online.•Save this post for later or share with a buddy 💬•Shop in store or online @caddisflyshop 💻 •Read our blog @oregonflyfishingblog 📖 •Travel with us @caddis_fly_travel ✈️ •Guided trips @caddisflyshop 🎣•Learn to fly fish @caddisflyshop 🐟 •📦Free domestic shipping over $75📬•🌎 We ship worldwide! ✈️ • #flyfishing #matchthehatch #flytying #troutfishing #dryfly by @oregonflyfishingblog
