Afghan Feminists Are Building Pathways to Education, Dignity & Justice ✨

Their urgent work has only intensified after the recent earthquake, which destroyed entire villages and left thousands dead or injured. Yet as global attention fades, their funding is dwindling. Without sustained resources, the vital services that women and girls depend on every day risk being cut back or lost.

Now, new threats are emerging. The Taliban has begun cutting internet access across several provinces — isolating communities and making it even harder for women and girls to reach education, information, and support.

We must rise in solidarity. Here’s how:

🔊 Listen and amplify: Center Afghan girls’ and young feminists’ voices and share their calls to action.

💸 Move resources: Fund Afghan girls- and young feminist-led groups organizing for survival, safety, and long-term change. Urge international organizations responding to the recent Earthquake to support the leadership of women and girls, and ensure that relief reaches them.

⚖️ Hold governments accountable: Demand safe asylum pathways, protection, and sustained diplomatic pressure on the violations of Afghan women’s and girls’ rights.

✊🏾 Support Afghan girls’ and young feminists’ demands: From the right to education to the right to live free from violence, Afghan girls and young feminists must have a say in all decisions about the country’s future.

🔊 Acknowledge and name the deeper roots of this crisis: decades of extractive colonial, imperial, and military occupations that weakened civil society and enabled the regime’s return.

You won’t see their names and pictures in the headline news. But across Afghanistan, girls, women, and young feminists are holding their communities together.

In the shadow of a regime that tries to erase them, they are leading with care — responding to trauma, teaching in secret, and offering support and healthcare where none exists. Their urgent work has only deepened with the recent and devastating August 31 earthquake, which destroyed entire villages and left thousands dead or injured.

“As Afghan women, even our existence feels like an act of resistance — and we refuse to be erased.” – Afghan artist @orienasi, illustrator of this powerful artwork.

Their resistance requires careful security and public anonymity, so it may seem quiet from afar, but it is relentless and ever-present. However, after four years of Taliban control, global attention has waned, and the resources they need to survive and organize have shrunk when they need it most.

We must rise in solidarity and match their courage with action. Here’s how:
