Happy Lunar New Year! Wishing our OAS family a prosperous and peaceful year to come! Horse Painting by Ning Yeh by @orientalartsupply

Moisture control in Chinese Brush Painting. Much of the learning process is just trying and DOING over and over again. You can read as many materials on how to improve but without actually getting out your supplies and painting, your technical skills will not see much improvement.

Have you tried this step in the Mechanics of Mastery? Let us know in the comments!

"What you cannot avoid, welcome." - Chinese Proverb

Progress over perfection! It can be easy to find all the wrong strokes in your painting, but instead of dwelling on those thoughts long term, find three (or more!) things that you like about your painting!

Can you guess what type of paper I'm using without looking at the products used? 🤭

It's like the OG paper snowflakes...but better.

Try making your own Chinese paper cutout! What you'll need:

- Red Xuan Paper or Red Banner Paper
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Template (you can fold your paper and then draw in the cuts)

The character for "Double Happiness" is often used for papercuttings because of its beautiful symmetry. Once you make one, you won't be able to stop. Feel free to decorate your house with papercuttings for the coming Chinese New Year!

Evan paints zen strokes with the Dragon Brush, Japanese Calligraphy Ink, and Practice Roll. These large strokes are a good way to warm up and get a feeling for moving your body with your brush.

The Dragon Brush is similar to the Mountain Horse Brushes, but significantly larger.

The OAS Practice Roll is a machine-made rice paper and is absorbent, making it excellent for quick, confident strokes.

The Japanese Ink for Calligraphy has less glue than the Japanese Ink for Fine Line, making it better for spontaneous strokes where you want it to spread freely.
