I just installed a @bambeds system in my truck and it’s the perfect blend of thoughtful design and practicality. I loved the intentionality of my last build, but it had its drawbacks- especially when I needed to use my truck like a truck. Now I have the best of both worlds. What do you think? by @originalgaba

My fourth update for the 1986 Willie Driftboat Project gets into seating! I redid the rower’s seat and got some cheap, high quality, but oddly colored seats off of Facebook Marketplace. Not in love with them, but I do like the openness of just having a Yeti 45 up front. I fish by myself a lot, so it’s nice to have some layout options depending on how many people are out with me. Also cut some rubber mats to fill the sides of the floor.

Feeling pretty good about this project! Next up, an anchor system, and then we should be ready for the maiden voyage. by @originalgaba

Southwest road trip with my wife. 5 days of not parenting, not managing a house, not balancing a marriage with kid sports, work, and all the details that fill a family calendar.

We ate organic tacos in Sedona, saw the Grand Canyon and Horseshoe Bend, hiked into Zion and the Bryce Canyon hoodoos, and soaked in hot springs in southern Utah.

All told, we covered around 3 thousand miles between Arizona and Washington as I worked my way back from a work trip in Flagstaff. Truly one of those trips that stick with you. taken in Southwest USA by @originalgaba

Update #3 for the @willieboats project boat: With the new floor installed, I moved on to the surface of the boat itself. I spent a lot of time cleaning and polishing the benches and interior of the hull, and I also got some foam decking cut and installed in the bow, trays, benches, and side rails. Next up, seating! by @originalgaba

First update on the 1986 Willie Drift Boat project:

For a forty year old boat it’s in surprisingly good shape, which is one of the main reasons for choosing an aluminum boat over fiberglass. These boats just plain last. I’ve removed the 3 bench seats, along with the old wooden floor.

With the hull bare I gave it a good cleaning with a shop vac work and pressure washer. It was tedious but satisfying work going through all the boats’s nooks and crannies and clearing out a few decades of grime, but after a few days of work I’ve decided that I don’t need to paint and that I’ll keep the interior as it is with some foam decking placed in key spots.
