A Guide To Berlin for The Design-Minded Traveller - thank you @beatrice_graf and @malihashoaib_ for your thoughtful contributions (full article linked below).

On the 9th of November 1989, 35 years ago today, the Berlin Wall fell…

Despite the legacy of a near thirty-year partition, with the reunification of East and West Berlin, the city became a hotbed of culture and creative expression across the arts.

A once divisive wall became a concrete canvas to what is now the world’s most extensive collection of public art. Bolstered by cheap rents and the irreverent spirit of the once prohibited meeting of minds, former GDR warehouses in the East became artists’ studios and temples of Berlin’s near-mythic nightlife.

To this day, the cultural pulse of Berlin remains a palpable force across the globe.

Much like this city that I love, the creative spheres are - at their best - hopeful, safe and constructive grounds for expression and advancement.

After weeks like these, when the divisions of our current political climate were once again laid bare, it gives me hope to look to the moments that prove differing ideals can come to co-exist.

That they can even lead to social, economic and creative progress.

More hopeful content and aesthetic imagery in full piece below:

Of London’s enduring cultural institutions, there are few places that coalesce creative, international talent quite like the Royal Opera House. The opulence, theatre and enchantment of this historic establishment are world-renowned, drawing a discerning audience from across the globe for centuries.

Sustained by over 1,000 permanent staff and a network of over 20,000 artists and theatre-makers, it remains one of the capital’s leading cultural exports today.

With the recent HerStory Tour, running until end-June 2024, Citizen Femme went behind the scenes to explore the illustrious past and vital future of this institution, through the lens of the inspiring women who have shaped it.

What a magical London Marathon journey to have shared with @charitywateruk and the most inspiring group of women I have had the privilege of running with @hotboysathletics! ✨

The water crisis is an issue that is entirely resolvable in our lifetime. The potential magnitude of impact is huge - particularly on the advancement of women and girls in the communities most acutely affected (it is an issue that disproportionately affects women ~4:1).

Thank you to the wonderful friends and family who came out along the way, joined our fundraisers and donated - it means more than you know!

Wonderful Jessie, @tenniswithhemingway, thank you for all the support and beautiful @pruzanrunning blue to keep me moving on Sunday 💙

To @estherswaffieldbray, @g.s.chandler, @xanthejdgash and all the @charitywater team, you have been nothing short of epic! @abbieroden, for being such a fantastic champion and hosting us at @amiewinestudio for our shakeout last week, your support and endorsement was such a vote of confidence! @house_collective_ for your amazing, ongoing support of the charity and the ever so talented @lucyphilipphoto for your beautiful photography skills… it takes a village!

Last, but most certainly not least - amazing @kimik - what a human!!! Thank you for everything you do to inspire us to all keep running, so grateful for you and all you have created 🤍🤍

Biggest hugs and deepest gratitude,

@tenniswithhemingway and I just launched our London Marathon campaign in support of @charitywater and we would love your help (link below and in bio) 🫶

Access to clean, safe, affordable water was formally recognised as a basic human right by the UN in 2010 and yet, today, 696 million people globally — roughly 1 in 10 — still live without access to clean water.

This is particularity pertinent ahead of International Women’s Day as the burden of this crisis falls disproportionately on women and girls.

In households that do not have access to water on premise, it is women and girls who are most often responsible for collecting it, walking miles each day - often more than a marathon’s distance in a week - time that could otherwise be spent learning, earning, creating, simply resting or being children.

For Jessie and I, as passionate runners, movement has always symbolised freedom. Seeing exercise as a great enabler — a way to look after ourselves, build resilience, confidence, and momentum.

But the choice to move — to run for joy, for health, for personal growth — is an enormous privilege. For millions of women and girls, movement is not empowerment, it is obligation. It is hours spent walking to collect water instead of attending school, growing businesses, or pursuing ambition.

When a community gains access to clean water, everything changes. Women and girls gain their lives back. Time once lost to walking is reclaimed for education, enterprise, creativity, and rest. Girls return to classrooms, women start businesses, improve their homes, strengthen their families, and take charge of their own futures.

Clean water is not simply a basic need — it is a catalyst for equality, independence, and opportunity.

We would be so grateful to have your support, @charitywateruk has an extremely effective and transparent giving model where £30 will provide a lifetime of access to clean water for an individual - for more information and to support, please visit the link below and in bio!
