Golden hour on the reef, when everything is looking naturally sun kissed and the fish look their best 👌🏼🪸🐠

Right now I’m dealing with alot of ugly algae’s ( it’s a given for such a young tank ) so iv had to cut my white lights down to 5% and run heavy blues so the reef always looks more blue. I love this time of the day when the sun lights up the tank and everything looks so natural 🥰

Meet Jasmin our new female Mandarin Dragonet. I thought Aladdin needed a companion but I didn’t expect her to be so aggressive 🫣 She went straight for him when first introduced but within 24hrs they have sorted out their differences 🙏🏻 I’m so glad they did as I wasn’t sure how much more I could take of this without removing her.

Happy Thursday everyone.. It’s almost the weekend !🥰

Which means a water change is due today and im also going to be adding some Sps corals today too seen as we are now running 6 months ☺️

I recently added 2 stylos and a Millie and all 3 are doing well so far so here’s hoping.

Despite their popularity in the aquarium trade, Mandarin Dragonets are considered difficult to keep, as their feeding habits are very specific.
Some fish never adapt to aquarium life, refusing to eat anything but live amphipods and copepods (as in the wild) though individuals that do acclimatize to aquarium food are considered to be quite hardy and highly resistant to diseases, such as marine ich.
They are less likely to contract marine ich because they do not have the typical skin type that is affected by this disease. Mandarinfish also have a layer of smelly and bitter slime instead of scales, which blocks out disease and also discourages predators.

This hobby can be extremely challenging at times and unfortunately 90% of reefers quit within the first year.

The first year is definitely the hardest but once you get through it it’s so rewarding 🥰

Pointing my powerheads at my torches to see how healthy the flesh bands are 😍

Flesh bands on torch corals (Euphyllia or Morelia species) are the visible, fleshy tissue bands that drape over the top edge of the hard skeleton just below the extended polyps.

What Flesh Bands Tell You

• Health indicator - Plump, wavy, and thick flesh bands show that a torch coral is healthy, well-fed, and receiving proper lighting.

• Protection - The tissue layer protects the delicate polyp base and covers where new skeletal division or splitting happens.

• Growth tracking - Growing thick, meaty tissue takes months of stable water chemistry rather than quick fixes.
