When I say that I am extremely grateful to have this moment, you wouldn’t understand. I’ve dreamt about becoming a nurse since I was 11 years old. I’ve ALWAYS wanted to be a nurse. But there was one thing I wanted more than that & that was to have a family. I’ve done that! And now it’s my turn. I am beyond excited for where the Lord is taking me in this season of my life. Trusting Him along this new path knowing that he has already ordered my steps. Thank you Jesus for seeing me through! Today starts Autism Awareness Week for my baby Joseph at school. If I’m being honest, I was a bit nervous about having him participate, because he’s at a public school & kids don’t need help being mean. I didn’t need anything having him stand out. I did my best to caution him about how to handle himself, what he shouldn’t do or say & how to engage others. He said “mom, it my day”. Lol! I said “don’t say that either cause they’ll tease you/ or try to bully you”. He said mom, “it’s my day.” I said, yeah, it’s your day! When I pulled up to the school, I didn’t see anyone with a hat on, so I “double checked”. I said, you sure you want to wear that hat 🧢 ? I don’t see no one else wearing a hat.” He said it’s all good. “I’ll be aight.” I just smiled 😊 at him. I love it that he’s his own man! I am grateful for my kids who step in to help me with him. Having five kids for me is pretty easy, even them adult ones 🤦‍♀️. They’re so similar in so many ways, but it’s those differences, that causes me to pause, drop to my knees & say Lawd… what do I do here? I am so grateful for my babygirl Jewel who’s always pointing me to information & resources for him. Girl, you would be an amazing advocate for children with special needs. And I’m grateful for my oldest Jaylan who’s constantly reminding me, “ma, he’s still a teenager” 🙄 cause I swear, he tries my gangsta often. Beyond grateful to be able to pull on my sister Shakina who often helps me with ideas and resources for him. For Jon taking him into his skate world to go skating with him, for Josh gaming with him & challenging him with his stories and ideas, y’all rough but y’all are so funny when you’re talking. To my mama, who will laugh 😂 at me when I’m frustrated 😩 with him, but encourages me too. I am grateful to the Father for trusting me with such a beautiful child who comes with some challenges, but I ain’t no punk 💪🏾 . I got this! Grateful to my village. I couldn’t do this without you. I just wanted to thank each & every one of you who took the time out to wish me a Happy Birthday by way of text, phone calls, FaceTime, social media post, DM, through meals, gifts, visits, a trip out to my special place & all. The love I received on my birthday was overwhelming. Y’all know just how to make an old girl feel amazing! And a special shoutout to some of the best kids you could ever have.
