Today marks 100 years of liquid rocketry

From the first days of Goddard, to the silver age of Mercury and Gemini, the golden age of Apollo and multi-national development, to the modern era - the past century of rocketry has been astounding.

I can only hope that in the future our progeny will one day celebrate 100 years of fusion, or nuclear propulsion.

Today was absolutely ear-splittingly cool!

Went down with a few friends to Cocoa Beach to watch the airshow. Blue Angels, Jolly Green Giants, F-16 Demo Team, B-52 Stratofortess from the 307th Bomb Squadron, and so many aerobatics performances! Absolutely wicked day 🤘

On September 3rd, 2017, its world record flight was held. Over the Andes Mountains in Argentina, the Perlan II managed to reach a staggering altitude of 52,172 ft (15,902 m), establishing a new world record for gliders. For scale, a typical airliner flies at ~35,000 ft.

The Perlan Project (@perlanproject) is a not-for-profit aeronautical exploration & atmospheric research organization, which utilizes sailplanes designed to fly at extreme altitudes.

The Vector Motor Corporation was a highly ambitious American automobile manufacturer founded by Gerald ‘Jerry’ Wiegert in Wilmington, California in the 70s. Vector was created with the singular goal of building the first true American hypercar.

The beauties featured here are the WX-3 and the W8, with the W2 and the VectorGT being the first experimental models produced. taken in Wilmington California by @orpheus3000

𝙺𝚂𝙲 𝚃𝚛𝚒𝚙 ➊ - 8/25 - Post 2/2

After we visited the KSC, Evan took me to see the two Falcon 9 boosters docked at Port Canaveral (B-1067 and B-1069). We ate at a restaurant (Fish Lips) that was super close to them as well. The restaurant had tons of mission patches of past spacecraft and launch vehicles lining the stairwell, and even had a shirt signed by Mark Kelly - an avid fan of the restaurant. Great food on this trip as well! by @orpheus3000

Late-night research and work always results in cool explorations - without fail! It's always great to see aerospace firms pursuing more cost-effective ways to reach space, yet rarely does ULA come up in this topic.

Douglass DC-Y (“Delta Clipper”) — This marking my return to aerospace posting!

While many space enthusiasts are familiar with the DC-X, a suborbital test vehicle of an SSTO, the actual SSTO iteration of that design is the DC-Y, pictured above. It would’ve utilized 7 modified RS-25’s (Space Shuttle main engines [SSME]) in a similar layout to New Glenn (Blue Origin’s heavy lift launch vehicle)

However, the vehicle pictured above is the B-model; incorporating a conical aerospike engine (also using liquid hydrogen and oxygen – same turbo-machinery as the RS-25) by @orpheus3000

My stay in Lisbon was wonderful. Spending time with family, experiencing a new culture, visiting super fascinating aeronautical centers and talking with brilliant innovators, it was a phenomenal experience! Humanity’s future is in the stars.

One of my long time friends created these hyper realistic raymarched 3D panoramas of various far future space-based infrastructures. I suggested she include a O’Niel Cylinder; large multi-kilometer space structures that are so large, entire partitions of a planet-like surface can be built within them.

It’s infrastructure like this that will unlock the true potential of the stars, beyond the “cave-man era” of the 20-21 centuries (estimated).

My career will be, in part, the development and assembly of such structures.
