Last month, Bill and Georgia Belk opened their home to hundreds of @ocresearchinst supporters to raise funds and awareness for orthopedic research. As the night revved on, the total amount raised climbed to over $80,000.

🏎️ Special guest @kylepetty’s passion for the cause turbocharged the evening of giving, “When you look at what @OrthoCarolina and OCRI does, it blows me away and I think we are very, very blessed to be here in Charlotte, NC and be able to take advantage of it.

🔬From pioneering VR therapy for amputee patients, to leading opioid reduction efforts, and enhancing overall patient care, OCRI’s work transforms lives. 100% of donations to OCRI during this event will be used to fund these groundbreaking research initiatives and many, many more. Every person in attendance and dollar given truly makes a difference!

PA Week may be coming to a close, but we’re not done celebrating our PA Fellows. 👏

Recently, our fellows got hands-on at an Arthrex Cadaver Lab, putting their orthopedic knowledge to work and gaining a deeper understanding of the anatomy behind the procedures they’re learning.

Shoutout to Rachel Szopa, PA-C, and Juanita Arredondo, PA-C for taking advantage of this unique learning opportunity, and thank you to orthopaedic surgery residents Dr. Maria Mueller (PGY-5) and Dr. Madeline Rieker (PGY-2) for helping support the lab and share their expertise.

Hip and Knee Surgeon, Dr. Brian Curtin just returned from China to speak at two conferences to share OCRI’s trailblazing research with a global audience- Urumqi International Symposium on Primary and Revision Total Joint Arthroplasty, and ASIA 2026, one of the region’s premier arthroplasty meetings.

Dr. Curtin shared findings from OCRI’s first-of-its-kind periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) research, including studies on infection prevention and treatment strategies following joint replacement. One of the OCRI studies Dr. Curtin shared in Urumqi looked at treatment patterns for serious infections around hip or knee replacements using a two-stage surgery. The results suggest that continuing antibiotics for about two years after surgery may lower the risk of the infection coming back.

By sharing our findings with the world through articles and presentations like this, we impact millions of people living with musculoskeletal conditions with our research.
