The people matter. They always have.

Real estate continues to change. The market shifts, technology moves faster than ever, and some are waiting for the market to tell them what to do. But the part of this business I value most hasn’t changed, the people Bobby and I work alongside and the many clients who trust us.
I’m incredibly grateful for the relationships we enjoy with these talented people and so many others. We collaborate. We share information. We help each other. We laugh a lot. And when things around us change, we keep showing up for one another.

I’ve always believed the best leaders recognize what makes each person valuable and gives them room to be great at it. That philosophy has stayed with me. Because at the end of the day, buying or selling a home isn’t about technology, a platform or the latest tool. Those things can make us better at what we do. They will not replace honesty, experience, judgment and someone sitting across the table telling you the truth.

Things change. Good people find a way forward. And great collaboration is pretty hard to break.

Thank you @soldbymaryking for the content day

Happy Birthday Daddy🙏🏽 thinking about how family is missing you lately. Wilson ‘Wingi’ and Diana have visited our family, in Phoenix and we understand how very much you meant and mean to all of us. We remember all the talks and the looks. And realize all was to make us better in our world. We love you and celebrate you. Felicidades y bendicíon papi. 🤍🇵🇷 @gigi.mall all your love continues to guide her💛 for me, there was never a room that you would walk into without greeting everyone. You always knew how to make those around feel your love while drawing attention to the importance of respect for yourself and one another. We will never forget

One of my mother’s dearest friends was Anna Ked Santos. She was a divorced mom raising two sons, in Cleveland. Their father was Puerto Rican, and Anna Ked, like my mother, was from West Virginia. When both women found themselves single, they leaned on their friendship rooted in country origins, resilience and determination.

In the 1960s, long before it was common for women to step into financial independence this way, Anna Ked and my mother were fierce trailblazers. Each had her own home and her own life, but together they made bold business decisions. They bought properties, rolled up their sleeves, and fixed them up themselves, hanging wallpaper, painting walls, repairing what needed repairing. My sister and I worked right alongside them, learning how to use tools and how to take pride in honest work. Once the homes were ready, they rented them out, creating income and security through their own grit and vision.

At the same time, they packed all of us kids into the car, no seatbelts in those days, and made the long drive from Cleveland to West Virginia. We’d stop along the way for bathroom breaks and snacks, heading toward grandparents who felt like they belonged to all of us. We grew up less like family friends and more like extended family.

This past weekend, Hal Freeman, Aunt Anna Ked’s son, now a pastor, came to visit my mother at Constant Care with his wife, Pam. It was a beautiful visit filled with memories and warmth. Before leaving, Hal gathered us and offered a blessing, not only for our family, but also for sweet Joanne, my mother’s caregiver. It was an emotional moment and a reminder of how those early friendships shaped all of us.

You don’t always have to be blood related to be family. Sometimes family grows out of shared strength, shared history, and a deep respect for one another.

This February has me thinking about two remarkable men who shaped our lives in very different, but equally meaningful, ways. With Rabbi Charles “Chuck” Herring’s passing at the end of January, the memories feel especially close. February is also when my dad, Herb, celebrates his birthday, so this month always brings reflection.

Rabbi Herring married MaryAnn and me in 1986. He danced at our wedding, celebrated our son, Sean’s, bar mitzvah, and later helped guide our family through saying goodbye to my father. He loved our kids, loved storytelling, and had that rare gift of making everyone feel seen.

My dad, Herb Lieb, was a WWII veteran, an entrepreneur, storyteller (though rarely a finisher of stories 😊), and one of the most loyal people you could ever know. From Kagel’s Dress Shop to Herb’s Underground and the private nightclub, Jockey Club, he helped shape a piece of Phoenix history. What mattered most was always family, friends, and laughter.

At my dad Herb’s funeral, Rabbi Herring spoke, and true to form, he brought humor along with comfort. He joked he would have liked to see Herb more often at services, but said they had an agreement: Herb didn’t come into his place of business, and he didn’t come into Herb’s. Two outspoken men, both with big personalities, great humor, and an ability to relate to people from everywhere; it perfectly reflected their friendship.

February reminds me how fortunate we were to have them in our lives and how their legacy continues through all of us.

Remembering with gratitude. ❤️
