I am very grateful to be able to say we received support from Munster Literature Centre, The Stinging Fly and Banshee for this issue of Oscail.

It will be a different structure this time with more poems than prose and we'll have interviews with two amazing Irish writers, Chloe Michelle Howarth and Sam Fowley.

We continue to explore how neurodiversity and queerness can be represented on the page in fresh and challenging ways with work from both Irish and international writers.

Oscail is a free and digital magazine which can be read on our website in an accessible format. If you'd like to support us there is a link in our bio to donate to our fundraiser and help us continue making Oscail.

We are very excited for you all to read Issue 2!

Introducing the very first cover of Oscail! Artwork is by the wonderful @james_wellwood99

We are working hard to finalise pieces for the issue as well as record audio versions of each piece for our website.

We want everyone to enjoy Oscail without any boundaries so the magazine will be free and fully accessible to every reader. There will be an option to support us financially in the coming weeks as we get closer to publication in December.

I am very excited for all of you to read Oscail and engage with the incredible writers we have included in this issue!

Hi, I'm Emmet and I'm the Founder and Editor of Oscail Magazine. I identify as a queer and autistic Writer and hope to encourage other people like me to get involved in writing, feel like their voice should be heard and has a place in the industry. From the very beginning, I want this magazine to be accessible to everyone which means dyslexia-friendly fonts, alt-text, and clear design. We will be accepting Short Stories, Flash Fiction and Poetry. We will also be accepting Visual Art.

Dia daoibh,

We are taking a short break at Oscail to focus on study and research around sustainability and access. This is to ensure we can continue producing the magazine and building Oscail into a stronger organisation overall.

It also allows me time to focus on my own writing and complete my MA dissertation for UCC.

Thank you all for your patience. I'm looking forward to reading new and exciting work in September.

I was honoured to write a piece for GCN on ShoutOut's 'Neuroqueer' resource for this year's Pride 2026 issue.

I asked ShoutOut's Ollie Bell some questions around the resource and the importance of finding an intersectional community that empowers our identities. ❤️🌈

Dia Daoibh,

We have been very busy with full time study and work so sorry for the silence the past couple of months. However, Issue 2 is now available to download and read on our website!

This issue would not have been possible without the people who kindly sponsored us in putting it together.

The overall encouragement from writers of all backgrounds regarding our inaugural issue was quite overwhelming. I want to thank everyone again for their continued support of Oscail and the community behind it.

We have selected all work for Issue 2 and I have notified all contributors. Thank you to all the writers who submitted to this issue. I encourage you to submit again during our next submission window.

I hope to have an update on the cover sometime this week and aim to publish Issue 2 by the end of March or April.

Dia Daoibh,

While we're reading through the submissions for Issue 2, I thought I'd give people the chance to support this issue financially.

As a full‑time MA student, I don’t currently qualify for most Irish arts grants and bursaries, even though Oscail is exactly the kind of project they’re meant to support. That means that if I want Issue 2 to:

~ Pay its writers and artists

~ Stay free to submit to

~ Remain as accessible as possible

I have to ask the community that values this work to help fund it.

Crowdfunding is the only practical way, right now, to keep Oscail alive and ethical until I’m eligible for more formal funding streams. Your support bridges that gap and keeps this space open.

Here’s what different levels of support might cover:

€10–€20: helps cover platform fees and keeps the lights on behind the scenes.

€25–€40: goes a long way towards one contributor fee or an audio recording/edit for a single piece.

€50–€100: supports multiple audio recordings, accessibility features, or a meaningful top‑up for contributor payments.

There is no pressure to support financially but I want to give people the option and be transparent about how the magazine is getting on.
