For a dog leaving the shelter and heading into a new home, everything can feel BIG.

A new family. A new house. New smells, sounds, routines and expectations. After shelter life, they may need time to understand that this is home — and they're safe.

That’s why one of the most important things you can do when adopting a shelter dog is KISS: Keep It Slow & Simple.

- Start small and let them settle.
- Give them time to decompress.
- Keep things calm and predictable.
- Watch their body language and listen to what they're telling you.
- Let your dog’s new world grow slowly.

There’s no need to rush out for adventures, introduce everyone at once or expect them to immediately settle into their new role as your perfect companion.

Give them time to breathe, learn and discover their new life at their own pace. As their confidence grows, their world can grow with them.

And this is also why we have an adoption process.

It’s not about putting obstacles in the way of finding a home. It’s about getting to know you, your lifestyle and your home, while also getting to know each dog as an individual — their personality, needs, quirks and what kind of environment will help them thrive.

Our goal is to help you and the dog find the most suitable match — a relationship that has the best chance of becoming a happy, lifelong one.

Because adoption isn't just about finding any home. It’s about finding the right home.

120 dogs are counting on us. Can you help us give them the second chance they deserve?

For 20 years, we've been giving abandoned, overlooked, and unwanted dogs the chance to experience love, safety, and a brighter future. Today, we need your help more than ever.

We currently care for 120 dogs, including the 29 dogs we welcomed earlier this year following the closure of Animal Lovers League. With rising veterinary, food, and daily care costs, our estimated expenses for this year alone are $1,145,000.

Every donation makes a difference — and right now, your generosity goes even further.

Meet Denzer, a super cute 9-year-old natural comedian waiting for his furever home! 🐶 A socially awkward boy, Denzer's endearing goofy expressions and funny antics are bound to steal your heart.

Denzer used to tremble upon seeing humans when he was first rescued. Since then, he has now grown into a much more confident boy who walks well on the leash, plays with dog friends, and accepts treats from hoomans. As his confidence grew, so did his goofiness, as his personality started to come through 🤭 He is still very shy and rather timid, so a home with lots of patience is needed for him to continue to come out of his shell.

Happy Friday and especially from this boy as it will be his last Friday in the shelter.

Wellness expert Kenzo has some parting words of advice before he starts his homestay this weekend!

- Stay healthy on the inside
- Stay clean on the outside
- Keep your stress levels low.
- Get plenty of exercise.
- AND never underestimate the importance of a good ear clean.😉

Fresh from his bath and straight into the ear-cleaning department… Kenzo's adopters have been bonding with him (including ear cleaning) over the past weeks in preparation to bring him home!

All spruced up because this weekend he’s off to start homestay— the next step in his journey towards finding his forever home.

Clean ears? ✔️
Fresh coat? ✔️
Ready to charm his potential humans!

20 years of second chances — and still counting.

As OSCAS marks its 20th anniversary, we’re raising funds to continue giving shelter dogs the care, safety and love they deserve.

From young pups to senior dogs requiring extensive medical care, every donation makes a difference — helping provide food, shelter, veterinary care, rehabilitation and, most importantly, hope for a better future.
