One Sunday in September, we went on a perilous journey up one of Bataan’s mountains. Due to recent rains, landslides, and overgrowth, what was originally at difficulty level 5/9 climb jumped to 8/9, which made @lex.pixel even more badass because it’s only her second climb after Pulag on the Ambangeg trail, and that was only 3/9.

Joined by @augustwahh and @oshkoshb, this climb is special to me because it really epitomizes the popular slogan about the real lesson and reward being the friends we made along the way.

Let’s take a trip back to 2024. Day 1. The first glimpse of the snow capped Himalayas on the trail. Truly a magical and humbling feeling.

Day 2. @oshkoshb and I really took every opportunity to just enjoy the scenery throughout the entire trek.

Day 3. There she is. Our first true sighting of Everest, and surrounded by the other gigantic mountains in the range, including Ama Dablam. A true beauty in her own right.

Day 4. Just taking everything in. Everything felt big. Comedically enormous. The only thing more overwhelming was the peace that engulfed the entire area.

Day 4. A view of the Tengboche Monastery, in the shadow of the giants.

Day 5. An out of this world view of the range as we draw closer to the foot of Everest.

Day 6. The realization that the clouds are beneath us, the mountains stand tall beside us, as we stand at an altitude that clears anything back home… by an extra thousand meters.

Day 7. The Khumbu Glacier. A highway for men made of ice, rock and dirt. The enormity of everything just feels exceedingly overwhelming. People we were walking with fall behind us and fade to dots and tiny specks in the massive periphery.

Day 7. We are here. The highest point I’ve ever been at. The stuff that I’ve only ever seen on screen, and a place that exceeded anything I dreamt of. Truly humbling. And cold. It was cold.
