Sometimes a work speaks for itself. This is one of those works I think. But for anyone who’s interested in some backstory, or who’s just getting into art and feels like they don’t quite “get” art, here are some thoughts that may help you enjoy this painting even more:

I had growing up in mind when I painted this.

The discomfort it brings. The fears. We try to shield ourselves from the dangers and pain along the road, but are we ever truly prepared?

As we leave behind our innocence, do we also have to leave behind the person we once were?

And what if the shield slowly becomes us? Painting of a boy in vintage clothes beneath a knight’s armor. He looks sad and holds a single sunflower in his hand. His expression is in contrast with the warm palette of greens, yellows and blues that are rendered with expressive brushstrokes, creating a sense of nostalgia. by @oskarevers

32 rounds around the sun. 32 artworks. ☀️

It’s been an incredible year in my artistic journey, with some big highlights and, of course, some challenges. But above all, I’m incredibly grateful for this year.

The freedom I found in the creative process resulted in some of my most personal works. It’s been a year of exploration and discovery. Identity and connection. Joy and struggle. And a little bit of the absurd.

So here are some of my favourites from the past year, to celebrate my birthday.

Cheers to another year of making, exploring and finding out where this journey takes me. 🥂

“Who has not sat nervously before the stage curtain of his heart?”
— Rainer Maria Rilke, Duino Elegies (1923)

A symbolic painting about the armour we build around ourselves. A painting about the things we keep inside.
Self-protection? Or self-sabotage?

Have a lovely weekend!

We live in a world that promises a fix for everything.

What if your identity could be “fixed” just as easily?

Estrangement. Having the courage to be yourself. Masculinity. Femininity. Belonging. Not belonging.

In this painting, I was looking for the line between one and the other.

In a time of toxic masculinity, I find it interesting to explore a different side of manhood. What does it even mean to be a man?

Is it in the way you act?

The clothes you wear?

Or the thoughts you have?

Even for me — as a man who has always identified as a man — that isn’t always so clear.

So, if this topic resonates with you, let me hear your thoughts and tell me, what does masculinity mean to you?

Man or woman? Or both?

As you may know by now, I’m interested in the way identity is created and perceived. In this work, I wanted to create a face that resists being placed neatly into either category.

We’re wired to categorise. We look for clues: the shape of a face, the features, the softness or strength. We try to decide what someone is. But what if there’s nothing to decide?

I believe we all carry both masculine and feminine energy within us, some more, some less. And I think there’s something beautiful — perhaps even seductive — about allowing both to exist in one person.

What do you see?

This little letter from my studio is about my motherland, Poland, and some thoughts on heritage and cultural appropriation.

What do you think? Can we only paint the things that are directly connected to us? Because, in a way, we are all connected.

I find this topic fascinating, especially its role in shaping identity (a subject you’ll probably hear me talk about a lot).

So, what do you think?

Folklore is something that has always interested me. Somehow, it makes me feel connected — to my ancestors, the earth, and the spiritual.

In this work, creatures from Polish folklore take centre stage (quite literally).

“Rusałki”, as they are called, are neither dead nor living beings that lure people in with their beauty. Often dancing and singing, these dangerous creatures are said to symbolise freedom, fertility, and a connection with nature.

In this work, I question that freedom. What do you see when you look at it? Freedom, or something else?

#polishfolklore #contemporaryart #folkloreart #oilpainting #emergingartist A colourful oil painting of mysterious female figures dancing in a landscape that seems staged. Their flowing bodies and hair merge with the surrounding shapes and colours, creating a dreamlike and slightly mysterious atmosphere. by @oskarevers

This one is special to me, as it marked the beginning of a new chapter in my artistic process. Before this work, I was painting landscapes and focusing on minimalism. After painting the most minimal painting I could ever paint, I felt that path had come to an end.

I wanted to challenge myself more and prove to myself that I could still paint more than “just” shapes of colour. The result was a period of frustration and despair, accompanied by a lot of bad work. This piece was born out of that frustration.

I got so fed up that some might have called the creation of this one an assault on the canvas (luckily no one was there). But while I was raging, I also felt a little curiosity brewing within me. With a little “who cares” attitude, I combined two unexpected elements into one strong image. I was curious to see how it would turn out.

In the end, I think the joy that grew out of that curiosity has become just as present in this artwork as the frustration that kick-started it.

What do you think?
