I’m announcing my retirement from competitive downhill racing after the 2026 season.

I have choose to retire from competitive racing early to protect my long term health after my 2026 injury in France. The initial medical outlook was at first more optimistic, but after a lot of examining over the last few weeks the risk/reward ratio doesn’t add up. The risk of a dangerous second injury is just too high in a simple crash at the highest level.

I’ve gave this sport my true all. It gave me a purpose, a goal to chase and a reason to get after my own crazy ambitions every day. Now for the first time since I was 12 years old I don’t have a goal to chase when I wake up. That’s an hard place for anybody who has put themselves into something so deeply for years. For what’s next I honestly don’t know, but I do know that every lesson and teaching this sport has gave me will carry me far in whatever sport or venture I choose to pursue next!

To end it all off I’d like to thank everyone in the community, my competitors, my supporters and the people I have met along the way. It’s truly an amazing sport full of incredible people.

Keep dreaming, keep chasing your own goals, believe in yourself and don’t forget to have fun in the process.

End of a chapter.
OR87 out.

Back home in Finland 🇫🇮

Surgery was a success. Been doing some walks, but mostly just resting. Around 2-3 more weeks of light walks and I can start physiotherapy, let’s go💪

Unfortunate news.

During training in Le Pleney on Monday I had an accident that resulted in an neck injury requiring an Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion surgery (ACDF)

Thankfully the surgery went well, and I’m incredibly grateful to the surgeons, medical staff, family, friends and everyone who has reached out with support over the past few days.

This is undoubtedly the biggest setback of my life so far. My 2026 racing season is over and the focus now shifts completely towards recovery. As difficult as this is to accept after already struggling with lung inflammation in the offseason and then bike problems at the start of the season it truly feels like the races just don’t want me there.

I’m incredibly fortunate that once the fusion has fully healed (6-12months) this injury is not expected to limit riding, however it will come with its own difficulties. The area where the injury occurred will be stronger once fully healed, but the areas next to it will have to work harder. Right now though, the only job that matters is healing, nothing else.

Racing has taught me that progress isn’t always measured by a podium or result. Sometimes it’s measured by patience, resilience, and the willingness to start again, even when it feels impossible at the time.

This is one of those times.

Thanks to everyone who’s supported me so far, I’ll be back. 👊
