SOVIET I ARCHITECTURE

Soviet architecture is not only faceless generic buildings, but also innovative projects - manifestos of their time.

During the Soviet period (1917-1991), Moscow construction was carried out under the influence of various architectural styles: constructivism, rationalism, Art Deco, Stalinist Empire, brutalism, etc.

In the first decades of the Soviet regime, architecture was impacted by the spirit of better tomorrow and rejection of traditional paths. For example, in 1928, Ladovsky's student Georgy Krutikov presented his diploma project of the "Flying City". The architect proposed to keep land for work, vacation and tourism, and to live in the soaring clouds of the city-commune.

The style of Soviet architecture of the 30’s determined the transition from constructivism to the Stalinist Empire. For some, Stalin's architecture is a reminder of the sovereign power of the nation, for others - the embodiment of bloody tyranny and the absence of the right to personal opinion and freedom of art. Stalin remained leader of the Soviet Union until he was on his deathbed in 1953.

Soviet Architecture 1956-1991 is dedicated to the legacy of post-war Soviet architecture. Soviet modernism, which appeared during the thaw, began to symbolize faith in a better world with more freedom. The new ideological call for modernization of the country led to an enormous extension of urban space. This is how modernist architects came to pure form and functionality. taken in Moscow by @osmetry
