Reentry 2026 is what happens when you crawl through the magic wardrobe and somehow end up back in Black Rock City, sans the drive, the dust, and blue porto water.

It’s a low-stress, easy-access re-entry for the dusty, the weird, the wonderful, and anyone else who enjoys being around people who think dressing like a post-apocalyptic disco pirate is perfectly reasonable.

Multiple Burning Man camps took over a massive indoor/outdoor space with multiple DJ stages, performances, art, interactive nonsense, and strange encounters.

“How bad can the wind possibly be?” a guy asked at a Burning Man meet-and-greet after I told him he needed 14” lag screws or rebar to secure his tent. He didn’t believe me.

The windstorm on August 24th was the second worst storm I’ve ever seen on the playa. The worst one was the day before, and it was so bad I focused on tying things down rather than shooting. During that storm, I saw a Shiftpod fly through the air about 15–20 feet above the ground. It was bad.

So, take securing your camp seriously. I’ve heard people say carports are no good in high winds, but they can hold up if they’re properly anchored, especially if you aren’t using the walls. I’d also think twice about relying on a Hexayurt. I saw a lot of them break apart in the sustained wind.

Two things we had going for us were that we were building an art project out in deep playa, and most of the dust in our area had already been blown into the city. And we also used an RV as a wind block so we could keep working.

You might not get a storm like that this year, but you should build your camp as though you will.

And even if you do everything right, sometimes nature just wins. My friend's circus tent got trashed; here are a few of his Aluminum Earth Screw Anchors that were broken in half.

And two unrelated tips I swear by→ Bring two pairs of socks for every day you’re on the playa, and keep a complete set of clean “exit clothes” sealed in a Ziploc bag for your trip home.

Over the past two years, I’ve been using AI to retouch images and scout locations. But recently I’ve been trying to use it in ways that people in my industry typically don’t.

This weekend, I decided to let AI design and plan a woodworking project using nothing but a pile of leftover lumber, a planter, and some random parts that I had lying around.

It generated convincing plans, but once I started building, I realized that what I was working with just looked like a silver bullet… when in reality it was more of a spitball made from tinfoil.

In my opinion, the project became an interesting metaphor for where AI is today. It’s incredibly capable, and it can get you surprisingly far. But if you don’t already understand the craft, it’s easy to mistake confidence for correctness.

Turns out the only thing more dramatic than the smoke was watching a group of strangers sprint toward me with fire extinguishers.

Sometimes the best part of the story isn’t the one you planned.
