Children’s Therapy Center, Co. - Boutique Pediatric Occupational Therapy clinic in San Jose & Carmel CA specializing in sensory processing disorder

POSTS STORIES REELS

Our hearts are with Kelsey and Olivia & Daisy following this devastating loss to our community. This special place has brought so many families together, and we are deeply grateful to have been part of that through Sensory Storytime. 🤍

Sensory Storytime scheduled for this coming Wednesday will be postponed. I’m working on an alternative and exploring how we can come together to show up for Kelsey and Olivia & Daisy with the love and support they have shared with so many of us. Please stay tuned. by @ot4spd

🌟 Meet Brittney Weinerth, MS, OTR/L - Founder of Children's Therapy Center!🌟

Brittney's journey into pediatric occupational therapy began with a passion for helping children feel seen, understood, and empowered. With a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy and years of experience, Brittney saw a need for a different kind of clinic—one that truly embraced neurodiversity and prioritized each child's unique strengths. 💙✨

At CTC, located in both San Jose and Carmel, Brittney and her team specialize in sensory processing, fine motor delays, and behavioral challenges, with a deep commitment to strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming care.

Brittney’s mission is simple: to provide a space where kids can be themselves, find confidence, and develop essential skills in a safe, supportive environment. She believes that every child deserves to be celebrated and understood on their own terms. 🌈💪

Watch the video to learn more about Brittney’s story and why she’s so passionate about supporting children and their families!

We often get asked to help when hair washing feels hard. Hair washing may look like one simple task, but it involves multiple sensory and motor systems. As an OT, I wonder which part of the experience feels hard.

💧 Tactile:
How does the water feel on their scalp or face? Are they sensitive to the temperature, shampoo, scrubbing, tangles, or towel drying?

🎢 Vestibular:
Does tipping their head forward or backward make them feel unsteady or unsafe?

🔊 Auditory:
Does the running water, handheld sprayer, or bathroom echo feel too loud or unpredictable?

👀 Visual:
Is it uncomfortable to close their eyes or have their vision blocked by water, shampoo, or a washcloth?

🧍 Proprioception and body awareness:
Is it difficult to know where to position their head and body or maintain that position during rinsing?

🧩 Motor planning:
Is it challenging to coordinate tilting their head, closing their eyes, holding still, protecting their face, and following directions at the same time?

🧠 Executive functioning:
Does not knowing when the water is coming, what happens next, or when the task will end add to the distress?

Not every factor applies to every child. Once we understand what feels hard, we can choose support that actually matches the need.

That might include offering choices, previewing each step, letting the child control the cup or sprayer, trying a different position, keeping a dry washcloth nearby, or using a familiar song or countdown.

The goal is not just to complete hair washing. It is to help the routine feel safer, more predictable, and more manageable. 🤍 by @ot4spd

Walking on uneven surfaces helps children practice balance, coordination, body awareness, motor planning, and adapting their movements with every step.

A hike offers this naturally, but you can recreate it at home by walking over:

• Pillows or couch cushions placed on the floor
• Folded blankets or towels
• Grass, sand, or small hills
• Safe objects to step over or around

Keep it playful, stay close, and let your child move at their own pace. A simple change in the surface can create a whole new developmental challenge. by @ot4spd

I wrote this story back in April, hoping to share it in a local magazine. It never made it to print, but I held onto it. Today, it carries a meaning I never could have imagined.

Kelsey just shared that a fire has left @oliviadaisybooks a total loss. I am heartbroken for her and for everyone who found something special within those walls.

For our family, it was the place where we chose books for a baby we were almost afraid to believe would finally be ours. Where Kelsey remembered our story, asked about him, and helped us celebrate the weeks until we could hold him.

Later, it became a place where I could bring Nicholas. Where we gathered for Sensory Storytime, welcomed little ones and their families, and shared the joy of books and play.

It is hard to put into words what it means to lose a place that holds so much of your story. And ours is just one of the many stories that became part of Olivia & Daisy.

I’m sharing this piece now because I want Kelsey to know how deeply what she created mattered. The care she poured into that bookstore reached into people’s lives in ways she may never fully know.

Kelsey, thank you for making room for our family’s story before Nicholas was even here. For helping me feel seen during a time when so much of our journey felt invisible. For creating a place where so many of us felt we belonged.

We are grieving with you and holding you close. 🤍 by @ot4spd

📣 OT Network + Connect Update!

We're taking a little break for the holiday season! 🎄

Our monthly virtual meetups for pediatric occupational therapists will be on hold for November and December as we all navigate the busy holiday season.

We've loved the conversations, shared perspectives, and connections that have come from this group over the past several months. It's been such a wonderful opportunity to learn from one another, exchange ideas, and build a supportive community of pediatric OTs. 🩷

We're looking forward to bringing everyone back together in the New Year for more meaningful conversations, collaboration, and professional growth!

✨ We'll share details about our next meetup as we get closer to January!

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season. We can't wait to reconnect in 2027! by @ot4spd
