150 Years of Otago Cricket 🏏

2026 marks a massive milestone - 150 years of Otago Cricket.

On 17 July 1876, thirteen people gathered at Wains Hotel in Dunedin and founded the Otago Cricket Association. Their vision was simple: Contest Domestic cricket, grow and advance the game across the region. One hundred and fifty years on, that vision hasn't changed a bit.

This year, we're celebrating in style.

🗓️ 17 July 2026 - The Founding Dinner, Wains Hotel
We're returning to where it all began. Life Members, Honorary Members, past and present Presidents, Chairpersons, and some of Otago Cricket's most distinguished players will gather to mark the occasion. It's going to be a luncheon to remember.

📱 30 Weeks of Otago Cricket Stories - from August
Starting in August, we'll be rolling out 30 weeks of milestone moments, legendary performances, and stories that have shaped the fabric of Otago Cricket across our website and social channels. Plenty of content to spark memories and fuel some healthy debate. Stay tuned.

🍺 150th Anniversary Brew
We're releasing a special commemorative brew, and what better way to toast the milestone than at the final ever Super Smash summer. Cheers to 150 years.

📖 150 Years of Otago Cricket - The Book
Later in the year, we'll release a commemorative history book, a proper look back at the people, moments, and matches that have defined our region's cricketing story, right through to the present day.

🏆 Hall of Fame - Summer 2027
The one that's been a long time coming. We will officially establish the Otago Cricket Hall of Fame and honour our greats at the Annual Awards in early 2027. It will be a landmark occasion.

We are immensely proud to represent Otago Cricket. So many extraordinary people - players and administrators alike - have left their mark on this great game in our region. This is our year to tell those stories, celebrate those legacies, and set the course for the next generation.

Great having some of the Otago Volts in the office today.

They spoke to the team about buying into a shared goal, having a clear purpose, and making sure everyone is moving in the same direction.

There are plenty of parallels between sport and business, and it was great to hear their perspective.

Otago Cricket can announce that the Sparks 4th Most Capped and 4th Highest Run Scorer Caitlin Blakely has announced her retirement from Domestic Cricket after 14 seasons representing the Sparks.

A fan favourite, and highly valued teammate/friend, Blakely leaves with an impressive resume, and memories which will live on for years to come.

Want to join the OCA Scorers team?

Opportunities are open and would be supported with focused training around different scoring principals and practices.

Introductions and training on two different technology platforms:
PlayHQ at community and pathway
CricViz used at the Professional level

There would be opportunities to observe and shadow professional scorers at the University of Otago Oval during selected matches this summer.
