Film Accompaniment 044 Stand By Me (1986) Dir. Rob Reiner A timeless classic that I think almost anyone who grew up in the 80’s has a scene or two etched in their mind. The movie is really somber, but has an amazing sense of humor that guides you along the journey. Reiner had his finger on the pulse and made 3 nearly perfect films in a row (Spinal Tap, this & The Princess Bride). Quite spectacular. ///////:\\\\\\\ Most of the sound is gone, instead you get off tempo delayed guitar. Thank chopper. #standbymemovie #robreiner #filmappreciation #improvisedguitar by @ott0bot

Film Accompaniment 043 Werckmeister Harmonies (2000) Dir: Béla Tarr & Ágnes Hranitzky Late to finding out about Béla Tarr. It seems he made a big impact with other directors (Wim Wenders especially) but due to the Soviet Machine…many films were delayed or suppressed or limited release. Need to watch more. Lovely, atmospheric, long takes and a big emotional weight in every scene. The concepts and imagery meshing in wondered ways…allowing you to just live in the same space for a while. ///////:\\\\\\\ Sound replaced with some random guitar playing. #belatarr #wreckmeisterharmonies #filmappreciation #improvisedguitar by @ott0bot

Film Accompaniment 042 Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death and Rebirth (1997) Dir: Hideaki Anno, Masayuki Yamaguchi, Kazuya Tsurumaki This exact film is not as good as the series or subsequent recuts, but it was the first version I saw on a VHS rental. It does retain many of the best scenes…battles especially. Of course - the series is a must watch. Nothing quite like balancing all the elements of futurism, humanism, and spirituality on the edge of a psychological action sci-fi setting. ///////:\\\\\\\ Sound replaces with some spaced out fuzz guitar #neongenesisevangelion #classicanime #filmappreciation by @ott0bot

Film Accompaniment 041 Paprika (2006) Dir: Satoshi Kon One of the most visionary animation directors of all time who managed to bring something new to each movie he created. I’m not sure what genre this is…psychological mystery thriller…with a touch of comedy & surrealist horror? Either way…it’s a visual masterpiece. If you like something a little weird and don’t mind giving into the madness a bit…it’s worth a watch as are his other films. RIP ///////:\\\\\\\\ Just a touch of dialogue retained….but added guitar over the rest. #satoshikon #classicanime #filmappreciation #improvisedguitar by @ott0bot

Film Accompaniment 040 Angel’s Egg (1985) Dir: Mamoru Oshi 10 years before Ghost in the Shell would become beacon of quality animation recognized world-wide…Oshi made this gorgeous and bizarre film. Surrealistic imagery filled with a contrasting palette of almost monochromatic darkness juxtaposed with lush pops of color and an eerie soundtrack guides you along way, while you try to figure out where it’s all leading. It keeps you wondering and doesn’t spell out anything plainly…but it keeps you watching…allowing you to draw your own conclusions. ///////:\\\\\\\ Sound replaced with a swirling loop of guitars #angelsegganime #mamaruoshii #classicanime #improvisedguitar by @ott0bot

Film Accompaniment 039 Ikiru - 1952 Dir: Akira Kurosawa Brilliant film about recognizing your own mortality and deciding to live life to its fullest. Of course, with Tolstoy as source material…you know you’re in for bumpy ride. Hold onto all those you care for and don’t forget to appreciate them while they are here with you. Maybe someday, we can all do that…until then…keep doomscrolling. ///////:\\\\\\\ Music replaced by some modulated guitar #akirakurosawa #ikiru #filmappreciation #improvisedguitar by @ott0bot

Film Accompaniment 038: Fitzcaraldo -1982 / Dir: Werner Herzog This movie really stuck with me for a long while. Themes of obsession and madness that rang true about the making of the film as well. Still, in this moment of near defeat…it seems to take a breath and soak in the environment before making its last gasp. Oh…and make sure to avoid the dubbed version…it’s a hatchet job. ///////:\\\\\\\ Sound replaced with some random guitar playing. #wernerherzog #fitzcarraldomovie #filmappreciation #improvisedguitar by @ott0bot

Film Accompaniment 037 - Nostalghia (part 2) As a kid I’d get lost in the Ansel Adams photos my dad had hanging on the wall, getting lost in the wonder of nature. Later Eugene Atget’s wonderful urban vignettes caught my eye. Paintings with symbolistic imagery (Maxfield Parrish especially) filled my childhood mind with wonder of fantastical worlds in vivid color. Tarkovsky seems to have amalgamated all of these things, living in the past while moving beyond it at the same time. Imagining a world, but also living in it. ///////:\\\\\\\ Sound replaced with echos of guitar-ism #andreitarkovsky #tarkovsky #filmappreciation #improvisedguitar by @ott0bot

Film Accompaniment 036 - Nostalghia This film is shot so beautifully, you can just sit back and get lost in the glacial pace. It’s 1984, but it doesn’t matter. Nothing is tied to modern convention. Tarkovsky doesn’t rush anything either, he’s marinating in the tug of war that is homesickness. It’s something that never really leaves you. You long for what you left behind, but know that you don’t belong there anymore. ///////:\\\\\\\ Sound replaced by some fuzz laden guitars #andreitarkovsky #nostalghiafilm #filmappreciation #fuzzguitar by @ott0bot
