TONIGHT ONLY! Guest Artist Alert 🔥

We’re excited to welcome Stacey Can Tamakloe (MA Mus) to the ORI tonight, teaching an Azonto & African Contemporary dance class for advanced tap dancers!

This class offers a powerful way to deepen our understanding of tap dance as an embodied Africanist form. Exploring African movement helps us feel where jazz rhythm truly lives—in groundedness, musicality, and full-body expression.

Stacey Can Tamakloe is a professional dancer, and holds a Master's degree in Music and Culture from Carleton University (2023) and a Bachelor's degree in Music and Dance studies from the University of Ghana, Legon. She coaches Carleton's West African Rhythm Ensemble and was recently a research assistant for the "Reimagining the Global Music Ensemble" project at the Research Centre for Music, Sound and Society in Canada. Stacey was also a guest artist for the ORI Ensemble's Ontario Arts Council funded "Sankofa" project (2023) on drumming, bells, vocals and dance elements.

✨ Open to drop-ins (current sessional Adv students, you are already registered for this class)
✨ A special opportunity while our regular instructor, David Lafleur, is in Montréal performing at Tangente Danse Jan 22-24

Dancers — come move, sweat, and connect to lineage through the body!

💔❄️ Classes canceled tonight ❄️💔

Dear tap friends — it breaks our hearts, but for everyone’s safety we’ve made the decision to cancel all classes tonight due to today’s snowfall warning and the City of Ottawa’s downtown parking ban.

We know how much these Thursday nights mean — to move, connect, to tap dance together — and we promise we don’t take cancellations lightly. Safety always comes first.

The good news? We’ll be back next week for some joyful tap dance times!

Pro tip for tonight: cozy up with a blanket and watch the legendary Nicholas Brothers in "Stormy Weather" — pure tap joy. ✨ by @ottawarhythm
