A few diss tracks inspire as much intellectual debate as Shabjdeed's recent diss of Saint Levant. Questions of identity, politics of representation, misogyny, and policing took over the social feeds of both artists' fans.

In this article, Othman Shahin (@ottoshahin) offers his own reading of the track, drawing on Mohammed El Kurd's Perfect Victims to argue that the diss refuses to submit to the Western gaze, instead presenting a Palestinian brotherhood not built for export - one of tough love, harsh language, and vicious mockery.

Othman Shahin (@ottoshahin) traces the sandy footprints of the faris - the warrior-poet of classical Arab tradition - revived in Shabjdeed, Touch, and Smokaholic’s new song, “Kattal.”

the silence here is louder than anything alive

you carry a chair out into the middle of it and sit with nothing around you for miles. nothing moves. only the wind comes and goes, but when it drops and everything settles into stillness, your mind pauses. you slow your breathing, and if you hold it in, you can hear your own heart, carrying farther than anything else out here taken in Black Mesa by @ottoshahin

“Boots on the ground” in Iran is an easy phrase to say at a press conference. But geography, manpower, and history suggest something far closer to a generational war than a quick victory.

In his latest analysis, Othman Shahin (@ottoshahin) breaks down the dangerous gap between the war some senators imagine and the one reality would impose. Read the full piece through the link in bio. by @ottoshahin

Othman Shahin’s (@ottoshahin) review of Konstancy’s (@_konstancy) debut full-length, City of Angels, lands with an unlikely take on love - heavy, enduring, and unbreakable: love of home, all who carry it for us, and the distance keeping us away.

Othman Shahin (@ottoshahin) delves into one of our favorite songs of the year and unravels its densely layered lyrics one line at a time. His breakdown feels like unzipping an insanely compressed file. The 4-minute track unfolds into a 5,000-word essay and describes a monotonous and infinitely repeating West Bank day with claustrophobia-inducing precision.

two years of stillness in the heart,
yet the world moves in laughter, in flight, in light.
I take pictures to remember that life continues, even when time holds its breath.

Last night, we stood together, our hands joined not just by the candles we held, but by a shared sorrow that reached deep into the soil of lands far away. Each flickering light was a solemn tribute to over 10,000 souls, a stark number that, while overwhelming, did not begin to encompass the vastness of each individual life, dream, and aspiration they held.

Under the night sky, we offered prayers: whispers from Islamic, Christian, Jewish, and Native American hearts, mingling with the scent of burning cedar, a plea for peace and protection. We stood in unity, honoring those who are no longer with us, their memories etched into the collective heartbeat of our newfound community.

To be Palestinian these days is to wake with a heavy heart, as each day ushers in the news of loss, new martyrs, new names to be remembered. It's a cycle of grief and resilience, a testament to the undying spirit of a people who, despite unimaginable suffering, continue to carry a light of hope, justice, patience, strength, and liberation. taken in Myriad Botanical Gardens by @ottoshahin
