An Daingin is where it's at! Dingle is the best town for An Gaeilge.

1. An Cupán Tae, The Cuppa Tea - An easy one for us to swap into our day if we felt like it.

2. An Café Liteartha, The Literary Café - Siopa iontach é seo do leabhair Gaeilge (agus leabhair áitiúla i mBéarla).

3. An Stúideo - The Studio - another example of when you don't need the English word.

4. Leac A' Ré - Kerry folks might be able to help us out with this one for its colloquial meaning - perhaps Slab of Time, but where ré can sometimes mean sun. If you know, please comment 🙏

5. An Gabhar Café - The Goat Café - Cuireann an caifé seo lón álainn ar fáil / A lovely lunch spot.

6. An Siopa bhFíodóirí - Weavers shop. Dingle is go hiontach for a geansaí deas!

An Daingin's longer Irish name, Daingean Uí Chúis / Fort of Ó Cúis or Fort of the Husseys and originally takes its name from fortress of the Uí Fáilghe chieftain clan.

The Fleadh is coming back to Wexford for the second year running this Summer - hup! Comhairdeachas, Loch Garman! 🎻🪕🪗🪘

There is a great want and warmth for the language in Wexford and hopefully the Fleadh will inspire more siopaí to add a bit of gaeilge to their fronts. Here is one lovely piece of signage in a great music pub - An Spéir Agus An Talamh: The Sky and The Ground. Hup!

The Irish name for Wexford is Loch Garman (Garman's Lake). Its name is thought to have derived from a thief named 'Garman' who had drowned in the harbour while escaping with his loot! The river Slaney got its name from a prehistoric chieftain named Slainghe.

By the early 10th century the Norsemen gave Loch Garman a new name, naming it Weisfiord or Veisafjpror, which means 'bay or inlet of the mudflats'. Weisfiord then became Wexford, our sunniest county in Ireland.

Let's swap the word 'pub' for Tig Tábhairne!

An Camán Inn (c'mon in)!

Camán = a hurley or camoige stick

Tigh Tábhairne is the Irish for pub. It is pronounced Tig Tarr-neh and is sometimes called Teach Tábhairne (Chack Tarr-neh). The term 'tábeairne' comes from the old Irish word 'tábeair' meaning 'public house'.

Pubs were essential gathering places for social and political interactions and the exchange of information, language and song in Éire. A pub in Ireland is what a coffee house would have been in other parts of the world.

Cloich na Coillte is the original name for Clonakilty, meaning Stone (castle) of the Woods. How beautiful is that.

Taking a stroll in Sunny Cork today we came across this lovely sign painted on an electrical box. It reads, 'Maireann croí éadrom i bhfad' which is a great Irish proverb meaning - 'a light heart lives long'.

Visiting a town that has an abundance of thriving local, independent shops like in Bantry town is as cool as you can get. Shops like Burke's clothes shop and Vickery's hardware, M Evan's newsagents and the gorgeous selection of Irish pubs and coffee shops. Every street you walk down in Bantry there is a bit of the Gaeilge present, such as this brilliant gem of an art supplies shop in the heart of the town..
