Learn to ice climb during our 2-day course any week between December 28, 2026 and March 7, 2027 in the @ourayicepark in hallmark- worthy Ouray, Colorado.

@sanjuanmtnguides will teach you the basics of ice climbing including:

Being a member of the Ouray Ice Park isn’t just about access; it’s about earning these quiet, electric moments that you can’t find anywhere else. Scaling these vertical cathedrals while the rest of the world sleeps is a rare privilege, and it’s easily one of the most rewarding parts of the season😌

Join the Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership and Ouray Ice Park Saturday, October 17th, at 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM for “Love Your Gorge” volunteer event to help preserve our local landscape🏔️🪏We have a full 2026 work plan, including infrastructure repairs at the Kid’s Wall, gorge cleanup, and an important erosion control project between Camp Bird and Box Canon roads👊

We’re looking for volunteers to help with everything from litter removal to specialized rope work for plant management🚮🌱A lunch provided from Ouray Grocery, event giveaways, and an optional park tour. Huge thanks to the City of Ouray, Alpine Bank, and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for making this possible. Let’s protect our gorge together!🤝

It started in 1995 with a handful of dreamers, a case of beer, and a radical idea. Bill Whitt, Eric Jacobsen, Dick Fowler, and Gary Wild looked into the depths of the Uncompahgre Gorge and saw more than just frozen water—they saw a future. With nothing but garden hoses, PVC pipes, and a stubborn refusal to accept that winter had to be a quiet season, they laid the foundation for what would become the world’s premier ice climbing destination📍🏔️⛏️

Those early, makeshift pipes eventually evolved creating the iconic system that the ice farmers use to grow the world-class routes that climbers travel across to send today. What began as a grassroots effort by “dirtbags” determined to build a home for their community quickly caught attention. The Ice Park grew from a handful of volunteers to a full range of staff that brings the park to life year after year🥶👊

The Ouray Ice Park is more than just a venue; it is a living history of sweat equity, friendship, and the relentless pursuit of a common goal. Every time you lace up your boots and head into the Gorge, you’re stepping into a legacy built on love for the sport and the town that nurtured it. We aren’t just climbing ice—we’re honoring the spirit of the people who made this sanctuary possible🧊🧗
