Vermont greeted us with chilly breezes, smoky barbecue, and apple goodness! 🍎🍁

After a cool ride aboard the Essex Ferry, we headed to Cold Hollow Cider Mill for lunch. Growing up in Kansas City, we appreciate good barbecue, and this smoky goodness hit the spot! Their house-made Cider Donut hard cider was sweet, smooth, and delicious!

We saved room for their famous cider donuts and a maple creemee, a Vermont treat you simply can’t miss! 🍦

While exploring the store, Crystal discovered some freshly pressed apple cider. One taste and she gave this batch her seal of approval!

What a sweet way to kick off our Vermont adventures! ❤️

Sometimes the best travel discoveries are the ones we never saw coming! 🎃⛪

Our visit to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, was filled with delightful surprises! A roadside fruit stand led us to an unexpected tiny chapel before we stepped back into the War of 1812 at historic Fort George, where British forces once defended the Niagara frontier.

We slowed things down with a peaceful waterfront stroll, even spotting Toronto’s skyline across Lake Ontario! After settling into our adorable accommodations, we headed to a local Irish pub for delicious food, drinks, live music, and a scrumptious dessert to finish the evening. 🍀🍰

History, hidden gems, beautiful scenery, and tasty treats. This charming Canadian town certainly knows how to make a lasting impression! 🇨🇦❤️

Niagara Falls, Ontario, where the waterfall is just the beginning!

We started with an outstanding breakfast at Flour Mill Scratch Kitchen and wrapped up the day with dinner at Weinkeller. In between, things got wonderfully weird. 😂

There were familiar faces outside Louis Tussaud’s, Frankenstein clutching a Burger King burger beneath a rooftop rollercoaster, and an overwhelming number of sweet temptations at D-Spot Dessert Cafe. 🍨

Thankfully, we walked off the calories with the Niagara SkyWheel as our backdrop. 🎡

Great food, bright lights, quirky attractions, and an atmosphere that kept us smiling. Niagara Falls, Ontario, you are delightfully over the top!

Would you come for the falls… or stay for Frankenstein and dessert? 😂

Niagara Falls gives you options. None of them are particularly dry.

You can stand beside the falls and admire 3,160 tons of water thundering over the edge every second.

Or you can get a little closer.

🚢 Take the boat into the mist: wet.

🌊 Walk to the base of the falls: REALLY wet.

🛢️ Climb into a barrel: Jeff, NO.

Fortunately, this barrel wasn’t going anywhere. 😂

We came to Niagara Falls for the incredible views, but apparently there’s a fine line between sightseeing and volunteering to become part of the water cycle.

Lake Placid comes with plenty of memories!

We still remember cheering as the USA men’s hockey team made its unforgettable run to Olympic gold in 1980. Being here brought all that excitement rushing back.

Meanwhile, fall was beginning to paint the shores of Mirror Lake with pops of red, orange, and gold. 🍁 And yes, we kept an eye on the water. After all, Betty White taught us what can happen when a giant alligator shows up in Lake Placid! 😂

Olympic history, Adirondack color, and thankfully, no oversized reptiles.

❤️ Forty-five years together deserved a special celebration!

We started our anniversary at the Toronto Zoo, where we met their adorable newest addition, Maple the pygmy hippo. 🦛❤️

That evening, we celebrated with a romantic dinner, capped off with a ceremonious anniversary dessert. 🍰🥂

After 45 years, we’re still doing what we love most: exploring, laughing, and making new memories together. Here’s to the next adventure! ❤️

Dinosaurs were calling, and I wasn’t about to ignore them! 🦖

I was anxious to explore the dinosaur exhibit at the Royal Ontario Museum, especially a cluster of fossilized dinosaur eggs. There’s something amazing about seeing the beginning of a dinosaur’s life preserved for millions of years.

Even Crystal found that part fascinating, so I’m counting that as a win! 🦕

You can see Niagara Falls from above, but standing beside it is something else entirely! 💦

We headed down the stairs until we were standing right beside the rushing water. Nothing prepares you for the raw power as it crashes over the falls and hurries downriver.

The roar, the mist, the sheer force of it all makes Niagara feel completely different from this close.

Sometimes you just have to stop and take it all in.

Some first views are unforgettable!

After an evening exploring Clifton Hill, grabbing dinner, and doing a little souvenir shopping, we wandered down for our first look at Niagara Falls.

Clouds covered the night sky, making the illuminated falls glow against the darkness. The rushing water, rising mist, and changing colors were absolutely mesmerizing.

Forty-five years together and we still haven’t run out of roads to explore! ❤️🚗

We’re hitting the highway to celebrate our 45th anniversary the way we know best, with a road trip filled with new places, great food, plenty of history, and probably at least one wrong turn that we’ll call a “scenic detour.” My how we’ve changed over the years, but we still love a road trip.
